Checkers at Five AM...

Yes, I did take these photos at Five AM (that means morning) for those of you in another country, Checkers is a drive through buy a bag of cheap burgers. Very reasonably priced. It looks very different in the daylight hours. My husband and I live by this Ben Franklin quote, that allowed for early shots. I wonder what it looks like at NIGHT.
Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise. Ben Franklin

Hold On a minute! Ben Franklin was quoting from and OLD saying that started as far back as 1400's.
As the olde englysshe prouerbe sayth in this wyse. Who soo woll ryse erly shall be holy helthy and zely [fortunate]. [1496 Treatise of Fishing with Angle H1] (is this English?)

At gramer scole I lerned a verse,‥erly rysynge maketh a man hole in body, holer in soule, and rycher in goodes. [1523 J. Fitzherbert Husbandry (1530) 52V]

Do you think they had Dyslexia way back then? Or when did spelling change to what we use today? Why did the spelling change? Who changed it? I don't know, do you?

Earley to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.
[1639 J. Clarke ParÅ“miologia Anglo-Latina 91]

Early to bed and early to rise being among Mr. Sponge's maxims, he was enjoying the view‥ shortly after daylight.
[1853 Surtees Sponge's Sporting Tour ix.]

A lot of sleep doesn't make us happier. ‥It's going to bed earlier that counts. There really is much to be said for ‘early to bed early to rise, makes one healthy, wealthy and wise.’[2002 New Scientist 29 June 57]

This is the history of the quote, but can anyone tell me what it really means? how does going to bed early help us? I don't know the answer to WHY but i did find one answer, to read it, click HERE and I hope this post was not to confusing for those of you that English is not your first language.

Perhaps it means that if you go to bed early, you won't be out shopping at the mall! That would also mean that you weren't spending money (unless you're watching Pay Per View in bed). jlpros

Forget the sleeping part, your post is making me hungry! Can you go in this place or is it strictly drive-thryu? I see the tables are like checker boards. Do people play checkers on them in warm weather? Getting more hungry by the minute. You can tell it's early morning here. New research shows that people who gets plenty of sleep weigh less, or something like that. Your information is fun, I had no idea about the quote. Where it came from, etc. Your comment on dyslexia cracks me up!!! some people will only read the King James Bible, thinking it's the only good translation, but really not. It was just written when they talked like that, and we don't any more, so our bibles should keep up with the times. I did click on and read your reason for the quote and of course it makes perfect sense. My quote is "Late to bed, late to rise, a worm is sure no kind of prize!!"

You are funny! And how cool that you have a husband to do stuff like that with you! Great pics and love the humor.

Since we don't go to bed early (it's 11 p.m. now) ---I guess that is why I'm not WEALTHY or WISE.... ha ha .....

Do you 'go' to Checker's???? Bet those burgers are greasy --like Krystal Burgers are up here...

I don't know why they changed from the old English language--but I'm glad they did.... ha

Hugs,
Betsy

I love the neon effect. And how cool that it can be photographed like that!

Love the neon lights, but I've never heard of Checkers. It does look and sound a little like a Krystals or White Castles.

I suspect Ben Franklin was a morning person and thought everyone else should be too. His wife was probably a night owl like me, lol.

I've never gone to a fast food place just to take pictures :) Maybe I'm a bit tired this morning but I had a hard time following parts of this post. Almost thought I forgot how to read for a minute....lol

Hello,
I am a morning person like Ben Franklin. I love the Neon lights, I have never been to a Checkers. I know my doctor says I need more sleep, but going to bed early does not help if I can not fall asleep. Take care , have a great day and a wonderful week!

Interesting and informative. Your mind was not occupied by the aftermath of the events that took place in Washington the day before and are now construed as a peaceful gathering of tourists for those who wish to rewrite history.

A fun read about a saying that many have proven true... then again, night owls like myself are not without those who thrived... though I am not one them! YAM xx

That is what is so wonderful about blogging...we can easily remind our aging brains what we were doing, like my Jan 6, 2018. I had forgotten about the mega snow and cold in Dixie
Checkers reminds me of our Char-Grill
Hugs Cecilia and thank you for the lovely bday wishes

I'd totally forgotten Checkers! When Ron and I were still married, our new next-door neighbor was a manager and would give us coupons. Hard to beat a good burger!

Healthy, by the grace of God ... surely not wealthy -- wise? Maybe with age?
Bedtime's usually 10 and I'm up at 5(ish). I guess that puts me somewhere in the middle.

I'm sure not an early riser..once up it's ok but has it made me wiser and wealthier..can't say that it does..I'm usually in bed by 11:30PM and most of the time am up by 7:30 or 8am....
Woke up to heavy frost this morning...right now it's 35F and crystal clear. Going to our former church this morning because of the guest speaker there. Hope we see a few friends that we haven't seen for 3 years or so.

That is very pretty at night. We have several Checkers around here but they closed up years ago.

So you were there only to take pics?? We used to go to Whataburger at 2:00 in the morning during the summers of several years ago.

I have been thinking about you and nearly sent you a message Friday morning. We had gone to bed at 7:30 the night before and I woke up at 4:00 in the morning and I GOT UP!!!
Who knew I could DO that??

I’m doomed! I get to bed early in the morning and don’t rise for hours. 😊

Those certainly are a different way to say the phrase. You and Bob are early to bed early to rise. I think it has worked for the two of you.
