Patten House

The second house on the Gamble Plantation was built by Dudley A Patten in 1872.

In 1872, Major George Patten bought the property for delinquent taxes of $3,000 and since the mansion was in disrepair from the war, he built this house for his family. Unable to maintain the mansion, the land was subdivided and sold.

In 1925, the United Daughters of the Confederacy purchased the property and deeded it to the State of Florida. Gamble Mansion and Patten House have been restored to the appearance of their respective years.

this completes my series of post on Gamble Plantation

mystery photo for today is below.
Who can guess what this is?

Hi Sandra, this is beautiful house and interesting post. I am sorry, I don't know what could that be on the last photo.
P.S.You asked me about crocus which photos I posted on my blog. I took the photos this past weekend, on Saturday. It was our first day of spring. The scene really was fantastic and I was exciting like a little girl when I saw blue carpet of crocuses all around the wood.

The second house is beautiful, the woodwork is captivating.
I have no idea what the thingy is, maybe a dried leaf ?

Morning! What a gorgeous home!

All I got on the mystery photo is "rain puddling on .... ?"

Beautiful house with impressive porch/balcony!

For the mystery photo I'll go with my first impression, someone with a shawl on their head seen from behind.

The Patten House is a beautiful home. I really like the veranda going around it.
I have no idea what your mystery photo is. I'll check back tomorrow to find out.

The Patten House looks beautiful. I'm glad that Florida is keeping both properties up...

My first thought when I saw that last picture was someone wearing some kind of rain-proof ??? head scarf -- or something over their head keeping them from getting too wet.

Hugs,
Betsy

I love the first picture! I think it's the same as the header, which is georgous and makes me want to hunt for a fan and a mint julep. I have no idea on the thing. It looks man made and waterproof, but I'm thinking there was no poleyester back then!!

I love your suggestion about the Bluebird award! Of course, I know nothing about creating or giving awards, so feel free to swipe my little bird if you want to do something with it.

This has been a fun tour of the Florida plantations. I love the beautiful old buildings.
I'm right there with everyone else... I haven't a clue what the mystery object is.
