Greed, the root of all Evil?

I had already published my daily post when I starting recieving breaking news, thus a second post today.

From the first day to this, sheer greed was the driving spirit of civilization. Friedrich Engels

Officials: Oil from spill could hit Fla. by Monday

This came in my breaking news today from our local newspaper, Bradenton Herald
the photos I am using are from the internet from other oil spills in the past.

State of Emergency in Gulf of Mexico
The headlines of our local newspaper scream about the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Greed caused them to drill for oil in the gulf, even though The People that line the coast did not want it there. (did you know the oil they drill out of the Atlantic in Alaska, is sent through a pipe line to California and SHIPPED TO OTHER COUNTRIES) yet they say we need to drill in the gulf for OUR NEEDS. get real is my comment!

Explosion in Gulf on April 20, is estimated to be leaking as many as 210,000 gallons of crude a day

WASHINGTON — With crude oil expected to wash up Thursday night on the Gulf Coast, President Barack Obama stepped up federal efforts to help clean up the spill in the Gulf of Mexico, putting the Department of Defense at the ready and dispatching three Cabinet officers to the scene.( Wow O Wow! we rate THREE Cabinet Officers. like they can or will do anything)

The president spoke Thursday with the governors of Louisiana, Florida, Texas, Alabama and Mississippi, and in brief remarks from the White House Rose Garden he said the government was using every single available resource at our disposal.”  ( I have heard this comment before)

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal declared a state of emergency. (NOW they declare it and emergency) our Governor of Florida has been fighting against the voters IN FAVOR of Oil Drilling in the gulf
NOW that he has decided to run for the Senate, and due to the diaster we KNEW was coming sooner or later, he haschanged sides and is allegeing  to being against it.

In Washington, officials emphasized repeatedly that the energy company BP, not the federal government, (might I ask WHOM it was that LET BP drill there) was responsible and would pay for the cleanup. (Be Sure to play the Blame Game)

Napolitano declared it a “spill of national significance,”

Among its other potential victims, the disaster threatens Obama’s plan to expand offshore drilling in the Atlantic, the Gulf of Mexico and north Alaska, and complicates prospects for any climate change legislation that relies on a deal between advocates of more domestic oil and gas production and those who want to limit greenhouse-gas emissions. (OH PLEASE, don't let anything like this HARM a BILL in our congress.)
See below quotes for what I think about the whole thing, it says it better than I can.

There is enough in the world for everyone's need, but not enough for everyone's greed.
Frank Buchman

We have seen that in this country in the last few years, particularly on Wall Street, with the rise of the old human frailty of greed. This occurs when people begin to serve only their own needs to the detriment of everyone else. Lee R. Raymond

Pardon Me, while Our Country falls to its KNEES, and I don't mean in prayer. I am angry about the drilling and the oil spills, but I am also afraid for our country and very sad.

Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realize we cannot eat money-Cree Indian Peoverb. Oh, don't even get me STARTED!! I saw on the news yesterday where they have a ring around the spill now and are burning it, kind of like Johnny Cash's "Burning Ring Of Fire" song. I will probably do a post on this tonight. They are drilling it only to sell it out of the country???!!! Those three people from the cabinet will probably make many plans and talk for eternity, while never deciding on what to do. The Native Americans respected the land, but we killed them and put the rest in horrible reservations where they are becoming alcholics. THEY would have never done any of this and they are still the rightful owners of this country. We plunder and pillage everywhere we go, claiming ownership of things that we steal from God and others. GREAT post, because you went with your heart!

AMEN-AMEN-AMEN..... I am sick thinking about what this horrible oil spill will do to all of the fish, water birds, beaches, tourism, etc. etc. etc. They say this could be much much worse than the Exxon thing was in Alaska years ago. They can't even get down to the leak to stop it....

I don't know whether to cry or be mad ---or both... Our country is in such trouble for SO MANY REASONS. We have turned into a county that our forefathers wouldn't even recognize now. It's really sad...

I've been sad all day long. One never knows why things happen--but there has to be a reason.. Do you think this will finally wake us up as a country??????

Hugs,
Betsy

There are so many people in our country who believe the oil we drill off shore and in Alaska will help lower gas prices here, thank you for putting the facts in print.

I saw the results of the Exxon Valdez spill first hand and now this, it is time for it to stop. Even the former governor of AK was spouting 'Drill baby, Drill!" The only ones who benefit are the oil companies. As you said it is greed.

I am very much opposed to drilling in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge and off shore.

I will not take a deep breath and step down off my soap box.
