Johnny or Jack?

My husband MIGHT be descended from Johnny Appleseed or Jack N the Beanstalk?. He LOVES growing things from seeds, if he has a seed he plants it (we have grapefruit & avacado trees from seeds), he can't stop growing things from seeds, we have ZERO places to plant in our jungle, but he still has to do it.

Above is one of his latest. 3 weeks ago I bought a Delish Watermelon. He threw a hand full of seeds in this pot and LOOK at this! if you enlarge you will see what looks like dirt on top. it is not, it is one of the seeds, as the plant grows, the seed it came from pushes up to the top of the plant until it falls off. Bet you did not know this! Or want to for that matter!

Both of these buckets contain tomato plants. You may have guessed where they camer from if you are paying attention. Yes, he did take the red slimy stuff that is full of little yellow slimy seeds and falls out on the plate when we slice it, and throw it in some dirt, NOT potting soil, just plain black sand from Florida and a few weeks later????? can you believe it?

I hope to have a pretty red tomato  post sometime in the future, so stay tuned.

Someone told me that ANYTHING will grow in Florida! But Bob must really have a green thumb, that tomato story is amazing, I've never heard the like! If you grow a watermelon, you are going to have some serious repotting to do!

Your comment on my blog is cracking me up, and it takes a lot to do that this time of the morning!! The chicken in the car seat was a big poster hanging on the wall when we went into the restaraunt. I thought it was funny. But not in the context of frying him up for wings!! They must have a rather warped sense of humor.

Bob certainly does have a green thumb! Maybe you should call him "Bobby Appleseed?" I have a black thumb! Everything I touch dies. I don't give the growing things enough attention. I want to see the tomatoes and the watermelon!

Just think of all the good eating you're going to have thanks to 'Johnny' or 'Jack'. I just wish I had his green thumb.
I enjoyed the pictures of the Pillow Princess.

Seeds.Lovely post. Will the watermelons ripen by fall? Glad you knew your seeds. My daughter was given some seeds(no name). Since she didn't know what she was growing, once some leaves grew she checked a plant book and discovered that it was not a plant she wanted to continue growing. It was not legal!! She was a bit sad that she had to end it. She went out and got some cactus in it's place.

You will! I love growing things from seeds too, so I understand. We have a lot of critters that would love to chow down on some nice tasty watermellon though. Some do better than others here, although we have Waimea watermellon here. Do you have a problem with certain bugs or snails? At least he's dedicated, ha ha..pretty neat. I've gone out and stared and stared trying to find a spot to grow something. Sometimes it just just gets stuffed in there (lol)..

Hi Sandra, I think you can call your Honey either Jack or Johnny.... Either would do!!!! He's got a green thumb... Does he pull weeds as easily as he grows things?????? ha

Hugs,
Betsy

Maybe the trick is to just throw the seeds in the dirt and let nature take its course. But having that rich FL soil probably helps too along with a green thumb.
