"Wolfe's Way" cont......

These are the horses that live at "Wolfe's Way". Ginny made the comment she did not know about not making a horse a pet. Neither did I until 2007 when I drove out to take photos of Robert and Kathy's horses. This is Luke as he looks now.

And Luke in 2007 when I fell in love with him because he followed me around looking over my shoulder at the camera.

When Luke was a baby the size of a dog, he was treated like he was a dog. he grew up, no one could ride him, he thought he was a dog, he became dangerous because he wanted to sit in your lap, or jump up and put his hooves around your neck, or play like he did when he was small. a horse of over 1000 pounds can cause real damage. Because of this, Robert took him on to train him to be a horse, he is now a horse and not a dog, but still has the tendency to act like a pet.
Last week as I walked past him he reached out and grabbed the shirt on my shoulder and pulled, I managed to pull loose laughing like a crazy person and he thought lets play, he bumped my shoulder with his shoulder, Kathy thumped him and made him get away. You do not want a horse that big playing like a dog. Robert has turned him into a really good trail horse.

Kathy with Val in 2007 and now she is mother of their newest Baby Cookie,

O.k., you've convinced me about the pet thing! I read this to Phil, and he laughed so hard that he choked. Luke has his own special mascara on, I love his white eyelashes!

Sandra, thank you for writing about us and our herd. I am so glad that you enjoy them as much as we do and we certainly love sharing our enjoyment with others. Yes Luke still has to be reminded every so often that he is a horse. It can be quite dangerous when he tries to act like a dog. So that is why we have to keep reminding him and teaching Cookie that they are in fact too big to jump up on us. And you captured the true JOY of Skeeter. Everytime I look at the pictures of him I smile. He is the new love of my life and I can't wait to take him out and about for others to fall in love w/ him too. Thanks again and please come out any time you want. We love having you at the ranch. Oh, and did you hear about V catching a pig last night? She is not only a great guard/greeter dog but can now add "hog catcher" to her resume'

Kathy and Robert.

Lol))- "laughing like a crazy person" Cookie and baby are gorgeous!! I can just imagine- yes, important that they'd have to bring on the training for sure. How precious- what a fantastic series- all of them are so beautiful and I like the last of them galloping!!

Love the horses! We went to see "Secretariat" yesterday and I thought it was wonderful. Horse racing is my sport. They are amazing animals.

Best,
Bonnie

Hi Sandra, We're on our way home from the Smokies... Fabulous day!!!!!

Love seeing all of the gorgeous horses... I had never thought about them being 'pets' --until I read your post.... I'm sure that once they are so big, they could hurt someone... SO--I guess it's smart not to teach them to be 'dogs'... ha

Thanks for sharing such beauty.
Hugs,
Betsy

Such beautiful animals! I know you are in heaven when you are out there with them. Just be careful. I know they would not hurt you on purpose, but could do some real damage, loving you..... :-)

Oh gosh Sandra, it is a wonder that he has not hurt someone yet. I know it would have been unintentional of course. :) I once had marmoset monkets and in playing they bite each other so would bite me too and their little teeth were so sharp!!

These are really beautiful pictures of the horses.

Beautiful pictures and good story. Myself I've always kept at respectful distance from horses. Actually I prefer it that way with dogs too...

The horses are all beautiful but little Cookies is still the sweetest of them all. I love that last photo of them all running, great shot.

Sandra I read all the posts today because I was off line for a break. I really enjoy the ranch photos. We spent time at ranches and saw how individual all the animals are. Your photos are so captivating.

Such beautiful creatures. I can imagine that having a horse think it's a dog could be quite interesting, not to mention dangerous.
That last shot is absolutely gorgeous
