Last Day of November

What does the letter "A" have in common with a flower? They both have bees coming after them.
- Kim Roblin

If April showers bring May flowers, what do May flowers bring?    Pilgrims.

In the autumn of 1620, over one hundred English Separatists and a crew of sailors huddled together in the small hold of the Mayflower as it battled through fierce storms and struggled across the unforgiving seas of the North Atlantic. Upon finally reaching land, every day was fraught with perils dangerous weather, disease, malnourishment, and finally the difficulty of trying to reach an understanding with the Native Americans..

If you get the History Channel on TV, don't miss "Desparate Crossing, the untold story of the Mayflower". We watched it this past week and did it even change our perspective on life in the good old USA Today
it is also available on netflix.

If at first you don't succeed...........

If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. then destory all the evidence. the photo above would usually be deleted from my computer. But I kept it to make a point. I saw this dead vine on the fence on the way to Walmart.

Snap! View! YIKES that's ugly......try again back off and use the 300 zoom lens....

Snap! View! NOT....... move a little further back and to the right....

Snap! View! that's much better! Once more now! you can do better than this

Snap! View! Got it! Love it! Post it!
It's the simple things in life that make me happy. Dead leaves and a chain link fence! Yes!

About me... or NOT

1. I used to drive an 18 wheeler in another life in 1983.

2. I really like this quote
"The more I see of man, the more I like dogs. ~Mme. de StaĆ«l"

3. In 1944 my dad was a meat cutter, part of his pay was a crate of Carnation Milk to feed me (could be why I am a pillsbury dough girl).

4. this will come as a shocker to all your regular blog friends. "I love Animals" all of them with a great big soft spot for dogs.

5. Born In Georgia, raised in Kentucky and lived in Florida for 26 years. that makes me Southern to the bone. I was teased a lot when I first moved here. I worked in Sears Automotive as greeter/dispatcher to the automotive back shop. I had to page people on the phone system. there were about 20 mechanics and each time I paged, they would all mimic me by saying fivvvvvvve twwwooooo fivvvvvve ohhhhhhhhh, all together (can you hear that drawl). Sears automotive is where I met my husband, he was one of the mechanics. that was in May of 84, we were married in Feb of 85 and now I can say 5250 with out drawling (unless I go home to Georiga for a few days, then it all comes back).

Ann of Anns Snap and Edit received and passed on a Stylish Blogger award and I want to thank her and tell a few things about me that you might not know. All my blogger friends deserve the award, so drop by Ann's blog for a visit and grab that reward if you want it. Each of us has our own 'style' and I think we ALL deserve that award. thank you Ann, for thinking of me.

I will stop at 5 and say one last thing. I love Bloggin!!!! and all the friends I have made in the past year from all over the world.

Christmas Calliandra

It's November and cooler temps are here. This has caused our Powder Puff (Calliandra haematocephala) tree to decorate itself for Christmas. From now until spring it will be covered in big red powder puffs.
the research sites say it grows 3 to 6 feet and the same around. I have measured ours and it is more than 20 feet tall and bigger than that around. The gardeners must not live in FL. I have seen them much taller than mine in Jungle Gardens.

Kemper Center for Home Gardening for information

This evergreen tree  has showy flowers that  attracts birds, even humming birds, lots of bees and lots of butterflies. One year when it was only about 8 feet tall, we put white lights in it for viewing from our kitchen at night. (note:if you have dogs, do not do this, they run through the lights and jerk them off)
Last year we had over 100 blooms like this on the tree at one time. Pardon the ancient wrinkled hand, is is for measuring purpose only.. HA Ha

Phun Phriday and The last of the Canines

This is just in case you don't know how to wrap that puppy you are buying for a Christmas gift.

Why does Santa's sleigh get such good mileage?
Because it has long-distance runners on each side

Happy Thanksgiving

Grace we get when we don't deserve it. Mercy is when we don't get what we deserve.
For this today, I am thankful.
(above photo taken at Manatee Village yesterday, the parlor of the home)

Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name. Chronicles 29:13

K-9 Chronicles (reported by WSKT Santa Skeeter

Hi, this is Santa Skeeter reporting the news from WSKT. Saturday the 20th, the Canine Christmas started when a Harley Davidson with a side car full of canines pulled in next to my trailer.

all these precious pups were joined by over 200 dogs! I was a little upset to find I was the only Donkey!

Santa Baby!

Sorry, Folks, I got so excited reporting yesterday I forgot to say I came to the party without getting dressed!
Mommy Kathy had to dress Santa Skeeter at the party because it was way to hot to travel in that suit. (I don't have a cool sleigh, I travel by horse trailer) and of course My Personal Photographer just HAD to document my disgrace.

Yes, that is my friend Rich getting a few Santa Licks

What goes "oh, oh, oh??

Shades of Santa!

Shades of Santa! What's happening at the shelter?

Hi, this is Santa Skeeter reporting! Guess where I went on Saturday? Canine Christmas Festival!
It is a little embarrasing to have to share the limelight of Reporting on the Festival, but since someone had to hold my rope, my grand pop volunteered. and of course my personal photographer was there to grab it all for you.

Each year The Animal Network and Bishop Animal Shelter hold a fund raiser, Canine Christmas Festival with parades and raffles and lots and lots of K-9's.
I bet you are thinking What's a DONKEY doing at a Canine Do? See it was ok, cause they are rasing money for ALL animals in need. See the cats were not there, but they had a booth. (shh just so you know cats don't do well in parks with hundreds of dogs and 1 donkey)

there were booths for Safe Haven Animal Rescue, Canine Castaways, Lab Retreiver Rescue, Boxer Rescue, Dalmatian Rescue. (to many for me to list, but you see what I mean)

Santa Skeeter reporting on The Rest of The Story tomorrow! if you come back you might get your photo with Santa

Heads UP, Tree Walker!

I went to step out in my back yard, and realized the chain saw noise I heard was VERY CLOSE. I looked up and there He was, way up at the 40 top of our pine tree and he appeared to be walking on tree limbs.

Look to the right of above photo and you will see our prized Night Blooming Cactus. I was breatheless that he might harm it. Turns out he did not hurt IT, but tore 9 pieces off the giant staghorn plant when limbs fell on it.

The limb he is standing on is at least 30 feet up in the air, and 10 feet away from the trunk of the tree.

I watched in amazement as he walked around in the top of the tree. He stood on the limbs like it was solid ground. he did have a rope tied to the trunk Just In Case he fell.

these men were from the power company, taking out limbs that might harm the wires behind our lot.he did not know I was watching with my camera because I was hiding in the garage with my long lens.

God's Fall Decorations

I wrote on What Karen Sees that i don't decorate for Thanksgiving, but God does. I found these sycamore balls last week in our park.

UPDATE at 4PM  from Mama Bug, she says this is a sweet gum tree and she is right. I loooked it up.
Liquidambar styraciflua (American Sweetgum, Redgum) is a deciduous tree in the genus Liquidambar native to warm temperate areas of eastern North America. A popular ornamental tree in North America, it is recognizable from its combination of five-pointed star-shaped leaves and spiked fruit.

Train Music and Memories

My Daddy played Harmonica and this was one of his Favorites. I thought about it because Tipper mentioned train music on her post Train Music at the end of the Tunnel

Daddy is second from the left, this is 3 of his 4 brothers. Julian is missing. taken 1944

This is the song daddy played on his Harmonica
