God's Fall Decorations

I wrote on What Karen Sees that i don't decorate for Thanksgiving, but God does. I found these sycamore balls last week in our park.

UPDATE at 4PM  from Mama Bug, she says this is a sweet gum tree and she is right. I loooked it up.
Liquidambar styraciflua (American Sweetgum, Redgum) is a deciduous tree in the genus Liquidambar native to warm temperate areas of eastern North America. A popular ornamental tree in North America, it is recognizable from its combination of five-pointed star-shaped leaves and spiked fruit.

The neighbors have a tree just like this one with the spikes on the fruit. Nice shot.

There's a plant (bush/tree/weed) that grows here that gives out little red berries every winter. Years ago when I helped in the children's organization at church, we always held a Christmas party and the most fun was decorating the tables with limbs of those plants that held the red berries. I still don't know what it is...I think somebody told me once it was a Japanese plant. But it always looked so cute at Christmas time.

God blesses us with so many little things that we sometimes just pass by....we need to slow down and enjoy all He has given us....

You've got balls from a sweetgum tree, Sandra. The sycamore has a smoother pebbly textured ball, not like the spikey ones of the sweetgum. If you can gather some up they make lovely Christmas decorations in a clear glass vase or bowl. I even made a small wreath out of them one year by hot gluing them onto a straw wreath base.

I didn't realize these were sycamore trees.... we have these fall into our yard from the preserve and they make walking in the grass barefoot very difficult. The ones we have are not conducive for climbing... so I wonder about the tree Zaccheus climbed up to see Jesus.

A fine job God does of decorating.

I never thought about it that way - but you are right - God decorates real good!

Beautiful header. Sweet gum trees here have more vivid fall colors than sycamore. I love them, but srp is right; they make walking difficult, even with shoes on!

Hi Sandra, God does a great job of decorating for us ---during all four seasons. We have worked in the yard all weekend --and it's finished.... Yeah!!!!!!

Great Fall Decoration!!! Great header also.

I remember sweet gum trees from Georgia, they were everywhere. Here we have lots of sycamores and the balls are a little different.

The brown leaves and balls look great with the blue green background.

I'd far rather see God's beautiful decorations than the tinsel in the shops. This is most attractive and I love the impressionist background you have achieved.

So simple, yet so beautiful. God's work does not have to be all glitter and show to be truly lovely. You have captured the ending of a season so well. It gives me a feeling of peaceful resignation that one cycle of life must end before another can begin! P.S. Thanks again Sandra for helping me figure out how to post thumbnail links. I'm going to use this on my Phun Phridays to showcase my photographer friends blogs. I think I've figured it out!!

This is so pretty! I like your capture and the soft background and especially the leaves!! I wouldn't doubt it if we had one of these here as our climate is so similar..
