Rising Cost of Living

As I waited for my lab work, this past week, a man bought a bottle of water out of the machine, 1.25. Another man said "do you realize you are paying more for a gallon of water than the price of gas?"

SAY WHAT? my brain kicked in gear and all the way home I was caluculatin!

128 oz in a gallon. it would take 6.4 bottles of 20 oz bottles X 1.25 (1.49 if you buy it cold in a store)

GASPING NOW 8.00 per gallon.... any one know how many oz in a Big Gulp? do the math for me.

we have two 12 packs of diet soda that have been in the cabinet for months, since we gave up all but water this past Thanksgiving. Note: isn't she pretty sitting outside in the sun? you KNOW madsnapper has to have a VISUAL...

Back to gasping.... there is 144 oz in the 12 pack above which cost 4.00 (more or less where you buy) which is more than gas is at 3.59 right now.
If I pay 1 dollar per can out of a drink box, it comes to 10.67 per gallon. (don't think it is a dollar now)

Can anyone say PERSPECTIVE? Makes milk look like a bargain at 3.21 gallon
Drink More Water
Check your per gallon before you buy
Also all those bottles and can cost a lot more than money by taking up space in the landfills

OK, I just read this kind of fast while on the phone. Its awful and I'm afraid we're in for a bumpy ride up ahead!
My computer is doing a scan, so will be sure to come back in the morning because we're both dragging (lol). Hey, your red powder puff tree is beautiful Sandra..your so lucky to enjoy those blooms year round! (Be back)

I got an email some time ago that had the price per gallon on a long list of products (most of them bought per ounce) can you say "GASP" So even though gas prices are up it's really rather inexpensive in comparison to the other things we buy without a single thought.
By the way, I'm addicted to diet coke. We save our cans here and turn them in for cash when we have several bags collected.

Yeah...I've thought of that. I don't buy a lot of soda ... except maybe at time during the hot summers. I'd rather buy gas any day than soda. Same thing with bottled water. If I could just stop buying that.

(I've got two new posts hanging out there somewhere that haven't updated yet. Grrrrrrrrrrr!)

It sure makes me think about companying about the price of gas.NO use to complain,I want to drive places so I have to pay,but I can choose to filter my own water, instead of paying for it.

I believe the same comparison can be made with milk somehow? That when you figure up all the WORK involved from farm to fridge milk, if compared to bottled water, should cost like $27/gallon or something crazy?

It makes me laugh to imagine my grandparents, as late as the 1970's, would have laughed at the idea that anyone would BUY water on a regular basis.

I'm not even trying to do your maths since we don't use oz nor gallons nor $... LOL... I still know the answer will be A LOT. I rarely buy any kind of soda except the odd bottle in summer if I get thirsty while in town etc. A couple of years ago I bought myself a soda streamer so I can make my own bubbly water at home. Since I have no car and problems carrying stuff, and we have perfectly good drinking water in our taps... I can think of nothing more meaningless than carrying home a lot of extra water from the store!

Ain't It The Truth! I'm so happy to have Good Tap Water to recycle my bottles and jugs with when I need to carry water with me. Gotta cut out my one a day soda...will save alot...I see from your calculations! I'd rather spend it on gas to go out on photo shoots! Thanks for the eye opener!

That is so true! I can't get over the price of a drink at a fast food place! I've started carrying a cooler around with cold drinks in it when we are out so I won't have to pay $8 just for drinks when we get thirsty! I mostly do that in the Summer when it is so hot that you need a drink after going in one store shopping! lol

Have a Great Day!

I had read that somewhere before and had forgotten! Thanks for reminding me - that is so true. We do have to be careful of what we are doing.

Thanks,

Sandra, Gasoline is cheaper. BUT...When you are thirsty you can't drink Gasoline. LOL

I'm not sure where I went with that one. Oh well.

Well, I'm still looking at that Coke can, in that lovely setting it looks like rustic modern art. I am math impared and had a bad experience with it in school, you are Albert Einstein from my viewpoint! I try to get in five to six pints of water a day, due to a bladder problem when I was in my 20's. Every morning, I drink two pints of water before I even et a bite. BUT, I cannot eat pizza or Mexican without Coke! Diet sodas have stuff in it to increase your appetite, not joking!!! I have even seen that on the news.

WOW! That gives me a lot to think about....it does cost a lot! Good thing we don't drink soda pop. I liked that toy you thought Ozabella would like. I could just see her....
Wait Beth wants to type something....hi, yes the injury is real for Rem. We don't know what happened and from a very bad past experience with our last Newfie -- we are really scared. He is resting and we are watching him closely. If not better by mid week he will be going to the vet. All he did was got up to get his toy came back dropped it went and got his bone and was limping. No running, jumping or nothing....strange....hopefully just twisted something when he was walking....will keep you posted.

I believe that drinking bottled water has become the "fashionable" thing to do. I drank tap water all of my life, (66 yrs.) and maybe I was drinking "rot-gut water" but I did not know it. Then bottled water came on the scene. We all decided that we must drink it because everyone else is doing it, right? I found out pretty quick how expensive it is, so I bought a Brita Filter and I filter my own water and recycle my bottles. We have seven grandchildren and while I may never see our earth buried in garbage because I am an old lady, I fear for them. I do notice the difference in the taste of tap water and Brita-filtered water, so I hope I am cutting out at least some of the bad stuff that might be in our community water supply. We have been told we have very hard water here. Plumbers say it eats holes in the water pipes. Makes you feel good, huh? If you watch the shows about water quality on the news you learn that a lot of that high class, expensive water, comes from places that have much poorer quality water that where you live.... Check it out folks....

That's interesting..so you clicked and saw my cheesy cake (lol)-thanks. I'm not sure what I'm doing (I have an idea it happened during an upload when I transfered them to my back up.
Wow, we've been paying over $4.00 now and when we throw the MMS granuels in, it does the trick. We don't have to change filters as much. I'm glad you two gave up the sodas! I remember enjoying a Snapple now an then but it's too sweet and too expensive! They stick that corn sweetner in everything. When I have a soda it's generally a Hanson's- very satisfying.
But your photos look good- yes! Of course I love your header as well!! So cheery-
Well I'm off to finish my homework (ha ha)

Not sure if I mentioned we are on water catchment (why I said throwing those granuels in)..........)

I think I may have to give up my Coke habit.

Great post Sandra, can I ask you what price is petrol in the USA per litre. It is £1.32 here which is around $2.13 I believe. Love the coke can!!

I have never (nor will never) BUY water. We drink it from the tap or bring it in our own containers. But I do love me a cold, wonderful diet coke now and then!! LOL

Oh no! Not my Coke! Waahhhhhhh! Seriously, as if moaning and crying were not serious enough, I have been drinking a lot more water lately and for a time was drinking water and hot tea only. You have made me realize that I seemed to have slipped back into the habit of two or three Cokes a week. Like Ginny, I want my Coke with pizza. Proud of you Sandra, and i like your visuals.

It is scary when you look at it that way. I ususally have a reuseable bottle of water in my handbag but sometimes I forget, if I am really, really thirsty I might buy a bottle of water.

Soft drinks, not so much. Hubby drinks them sometimes.

Your gas is 3.59? Ours was at 3.71 yesterday and that was the low priced station.
