FMTSO- Bloggers Choice

Our assignment for April 1st is Bloggers Choice from History of Assignments at My Town Shoot out. I chose What I collect.....Pop over if you want to play or just check out FMTSO for today
If you have guessed Oil Lamps, you are correct. this photo I took June of 2003. The lamp resides on our bedside table and the sun was shining on it like it was on fire. Only the one time, it is in the same place and I have tried to catch it again and again.

At one time, I had over 40 oil lamps in all sizes. the lamp collecting got out of hand, and my family did not realize I wanted only OLD lamps, and I was bombarded with lamps I did not really want.

Johnny Appleseed, Bob (husband of the green thumb) is also a talented carpenter.
As the lamps came, he built a whole wall of shelves in our guest bedroom

When we moved from that house 21 years ago, I kept only 7 of the lamps, the really old ones

Above lamp belonged to my husbands grandparents, my grand parents lamp is packed away, so no photo

this is my special lamp, I was about to say it is not an antique, because Daddy bought it new for me, but then I realized he bought it new 40 years ago, so it is old, just like me.

Daddy never bought presents, it was not in him. He knew I loved oil lamps and was in a country store in rural Georgia when I was 27. He came home with this lamp. I was not all that fond of it because it was NEW, but I kept it because it was the only gift he ever bought me.

the only gift he ever bought my mother without my help was a BLUE GLASS Chicken and a Seal planter, as in Seal of the Sea. Mothers name was Cille. Get it?

That is an interesting collection. That's the trouble with collecting things, finding storage places. They are all beautiful. However, I would not have thought so 60 years ago when I lived in a tent and then a garage without electricity and we had a lamp like the second one in your post. We would have preferred electricity then.

I love the old oil lamps and you have some beautiful ones Sandra. We have a couple that belonged to my husband's grandmother.

Your second photo with the sun through the blinds and the reflections on the table is stunning.

I enjoyed your oil lamp collection, I did not know you collected them. Great blog.

Sandra, oil lamps seem to be more decorative than functional today. We have 5, but none are old. We use the one on our dining room table almost daily since we dine by candlelight and oil light every day, except in summer when we eat on the front porch whenever possible and we lit candles there too.

Well, here I am back visiting my favorite blogs once again. I'm still lolling around in my robe and trying to work up the energy to unpack my suitcase. It has been two days since I returned and the only thing out of the suitcase is my toothbrush!!

Best,
Bonnie

Love all your old oil lamps Sandra. I have one just like the last photo; same gold colored bottom. And guess where mine came from: Georgia! It was a Christmas gift back in 1974 when I lived in Georgetown, GA. Small world!

Oh I adore a good oil lamp!! We lived in a cabin way out in the woods for a couple years..and that was the best thing ever..unreliable electricity..so the oil lamps were wonderful!
I loved the first shot..the shadow is stunning! But for the lamps..the green one is beautiful! I love the story behind it!!
Wonderful shootout! Sarah :)

A lot of nice oil lamps. You should be okay, for light at least, in case of a power failure. I really liked the effect on that top one.

Your photos really bring out the beauty in these lamps. I love the shadow in the first picture! Good story-telling too... I don't really collect anything like that; or perhaps it's more correct to say that all my shelfspace is occupied by books...

You angles and settings and reflections / refractions make your collection stand out in a beautiful way. Particularly that first shot which is really prize winner.

Do you have the chicken and the planter? The lamp he picked out is beautiful, I love the colors. Really colorful without being loud about it. ELEGANT is the one word to describe it. My next favorite is the one with the aqua base, i LOVE it!! But your dad's, it would go with anything. do you ever use any of them?? Wouldn't it be pretty to group them and light them for a blog picture? A light unto our feet....

What a great story about the lamp your dad bought for you. I don't think our dads bought gifts back in the day much for thier children. From my experience they usually were busy working and trying to make ends meet. I enjoyed this post, thanks.

I really enjoyed the story behind the green lamp. Aren't you glad you kept it now even though it was new when you bought it. It's perfect. I also really like that first shot. What a great capture.

I enjoyed this post and the beautiful shadows with your lamp..the lighting is so pretty!! I know how that is with catching a paticular image especially lighting! This was both touching and sad..wow, I'm glad you shared it. Funny how we all are? I would resuscitate that old oil lamp and put it up some place. What a pretty collection and I think its really neat Bob made a shelf for you like that!! I think my husband and his talents are similar (I'm glad you benefited (smile).
Hey, those heron's..I may of forgot to say we have a night heron which has gone after my sisters fish in her pond!! Ginny did a post on them some time back but I know there are many different varities.
I've seen some memes lately that look interesting but haven't participated in awhile. I will try to check it out later. Some are not so intriguing but I generally catch them too late in the game?
