Copyright Warnings and Shadows on my wall

Kitchen Wall Shadow Shot and you can see how fast the sun was moving up the wall, in the blink of an eye

I have never put my name on my photos but there is a new kid in town.....PINTEREST

Our morning news says Pinterest, the new Pin it to the Bullentin Board has 4 million hits in a day, and may become more popular than Facebook. It requires no personal info like FB does.

Angela from West Virgina Treasures emailed me that one of her photos showed up on this board. I had never heard of it. Per our news person people are addicted to going here and PINNING any photos or videos they find on the web for others to see to say I like this. (good news is, if that person clicks on your borrowed photo it goes to your blog)

I personally do not know why anyone wants to go find photos someone else took and post it on a bulletin board and say I like this. Also, they post your recipes, there are many categories. this seems like Forwards on Steroids to me.  (NOTE: I delete all forwards without reading)

This means if you want credit for  your photos, you will have to put your copyright on them. I have no easy way to do this and it is making me crazy so will just leave them without it.

I've been seeing Pinterest around for several months now. Several of the bloggers I follow are very into this bulletin board. I looked at it and it sounds interesting but I don't the time.

I already know that my photos are all over Google images but at least there is a link back to my blog. This one, there is no way to track. Unfortunately copyrights on photos are easily cropped out or can be removed with programs like Photoshop. I just don't worry about it any more.

Those are cool shadows!

Colleen blogger told me about pinterest and she just loves it. I took a look and didn't quite understand it but Blogging seems to be more fun and that takes up enough time. I don't really mind if others use my photos.

I only have time to blog, no more room in my life for something else.

I do understand there is suppose to be a link back to your blog if they use one of your photos.

I do have embedded watermarks on my photos, takes a few more minutes but at least I know I have them marked.

I know many of artist have their photos taken all the time. Hard to stop it.

I do love your photo and that touch of yellow!

I know what you mean, I wouldn't like it if anyone was using my photos either and take the credit for it. THat's why I put my mark on them [usually] especially my artwork. But it's hard to protect yourself completely these days. I myself does not use pinterest, due to lack of time [lol] Facebook and blogger is enough I think.
I love your photo of the sun shadowing your kitchen wall, well captured :) Have a nice and relaxing Sunday!

Firs off I love the pictures. I really like those daisies with just the one in color.
I use Pinterest but not to the extent that some do. I find it to be a much easier way to keep track of links that I want to remember. (such as ripple stitch patterns....lol)

Heard of this.... Took a look.... Don't understand the *wonders* of it... Or understand it... lol.

To me, just another fad. Like *everyone* had to Twitter for a while. (I tried. Not for me.) New fads. They come. They go.

I'll stick to just blogging. I've gotten tired of trying to chase the *new great thing*. -chuckle- Guess my age is showing, hu? ,-)

Computer screen keeps going to black and we have to get a new cord later. No quote today. -sigh-

a couple of my photos have been 'pinned' but like you said, at least i get traffic back to my post for it. and i get a lot of hits thru google images, too. what i didn't appreciate is just yesterday a blogger friend told me about a post by someone saying another blogger used her photos w/o permission. she followed the link to the offender and recognized my dogs! she then told me about it. it was a woman in portugal that had used several of my dog pictures off my blog, then further back, also used my sunrise photos. i left comments on both posts telling her i did not appreciate her use without permission or credit and to remove them. she did. and she left me a message in broken english apologizing. so you will soon see me marking my photos - at least they'll have to crop out the mark to use them...

texwisgirl, that was a cautionary tale. I am way, way too old to have energy to worry about this and also to understand what the point is. I find writing and taking pictures for my blog a creative venture, just wondering around the blog stealing photos to pin somewhere seems pretty pointless to me. Thanks for this post though. Now I know a bit more of what goes on.

I guess there is some difference between just liking your photos and sharing them in their sphere but I certainly don't want them profiting from my efforts.
I know people that use it but it really doesn't interest me either. I have all I can do to keep up with my blog and FB.

I love your shadow photos and the daisy pics on your wall.
I've never heard of Pinterest. I will check it out. I have my hands full just following blogs and trying to post regulary (I'm behind now. LOL).

Have a great day Sandra!

I haven't gotten into Pinterest yet, I barely find enough time to keep up with blogging! I do think it's a shame that people have to steal others photos and words and pass them off as their own. Shame on them!

Thanks for the info Sandra. Haven't heard much about Pinterest as I have my hands full with blogging and FB. It's too bad people have to ruin things...by stealing the photos! I have had a couple of my photos show up in places where my permission was not granted but...I just don't have to time to copywrite everything. So I guess if they "steal" it and share it, I should feel flattered. :/

I love Pinterest. It would be impossible to mark all your photos.
I have marked my personal ones that I pinned myself. I haven't seen any harm from Pinterest. It is my little slice of heaven each day!

I have been invited to Pinterest and I have spent some time on there, but I haven't gotten it quite figured out yet. I have been signing my photos for a while now. I'm not sure how much protection it provides but I do it anyhow. Like texwisgirl says, they will have to crop or do some cloning if they want to steal them. I think that the nature of the internet makes protecting your stuff from theft pretty difficult. But it's not going to keep me from posting.

I went for a spell of putting a copyright on my photos, then didn't, but have been back to putting one most of the time....and I will put it right in the middle of the photo sometimes till it will be hard to crop out...I have no idea why you would want to get credit for something you didn't do.

Do you use Picasa to edit any photos, or do you use Adobe? Picasa does it for you if you want it, but from what I can see, it always puts it in the same place...with Adobe Elements I can use the font I choose, and place it where I want.

That being said, the other thing is to post smaller photos till at least they probably won't make money for them.

Oh, and BTW, I love your shots.

thanks for the warning...I joined pinterest...but I think I'm going to drop out...I don't really understand it any way...

I guess all publicity is good publicity - there's nothing to stop anyone taking your photos anyway!!

Love your shadow shots - the monochrome colours and composition are brilliant!

I like your shadows!

At the moment I'm not even keeping up with my blogging so I don't need something new. Stealing photos is so unfair...but I don't want writing on my photos. Not yet, anyway. :)

Your shadows are awesome!

I have joined Pinterst awhile ago and have done nothing with it.

And people can have anything I draw! lol

The most important comment I can make is that your shadow photos are wonderful.

I haven't heard of Pinterst before. Some of my pictures have appeared on other sites. I do put my name on pictures now, but that's about all I can do.

It was very interesting reading all of the comments you received and reading their views. I for one don't understand it but I will keep on putting my blog name on all my pictures before I post them. I always resize them and maybe I should resize them smaller than the 700 or 800 that I usually do.

I love your shadow cast pictures of your wall. Your pictures on your wall are just beautiful! Those are your pictures aren't they! You take such great pictures!
