Cracker House

This old home is in the Manatee Historical Village 6 miles from my front door. Over the years I have spent many happy hours wandering in it with my camera.

Click Here for a Past Posts on the park. It is under label  Historical Park
The Settlers House was built in 1912 by the Will Stephens Family. Located on a farm near Ona and moved to the park to preserve it.

We were to late for the garden, it had been harvested and pulled up. There were a few sunflowers left.

the park has a General Store, Boat work's, Church from 1884, School House, Court House, a small cabin, Cracker House, Smokehouse, Sugar Cane Mill, 2 barns and a windmill.

My Maternal Grandmother lived in a house very much like this one, only a few miles from this home.

Years ago you told me what a Cracker House meant, but I've forgotten. The first picture, I love the lovely beautiful touch of the Spanish moss tree in the upper right corner. And wow, all the other stuff, I think you added them? The flag and flowers and a few others? ADORE your sunflower!!!

Love that sunflower! The old Cracker house reminds me of one my great aunt lived in long ago, it may have been one but I'm not sure. I just like those porches.

It's a lovely old house Sandra. I like that front porch. I can see myself there shelling a dishpan full of peas!

When I went to Florida in the 80's, I was fascinated by those trees with the "hanging moss" or whatever it is. I still find myself staring at them as in the first photo. I remember waking up in the motel a couple of days later and my skin was baby wonderful. Course my hair wouldn't curl if it was paid to do so, but you have to pick your battles there. Beautiful state.

This house reminds me or my grandmother and granddad's home they had in NC. She had a porch swing that I enjoy very much! Pretty sunflowers!

What a wonderful place to visit and photograph, even if the garden was gone. I like the way you've included the sunflower in the pictures of the house. I'm glad the house has been preserved and that you shared it with us.

The sunflowers are gorgeous and I love the white picket fence surrounded the very pretty house. Thanks for sharing these lovely photos. The sunflowers cheered me up this morning.

I love the big front porch on that house. I've always wanted a big covered front porch so I could sit out there in a swing and watch the rain or just enjoy the evening air.
Those sunflowers are really pretty.

For part of my childhood, I lived in homes like this - but not so pretty. Some of ours didn't even have flooring - yep, walked on dirt. At least it wasn't water. LOL.
