Hurricane Watching

We are now in Hurricane Watching Mode. Above is our local news, below is National Hurricane Tracker.
I marked where we are on both. If it follows above track, we will get wind and rain, if it follows below we will get LOTS of wind and rain.

IF it makes a right turn, and they are famous for making sudden turns then

The thing is...... no one knows where Isaac goes..... so we all Watch and Wait.......

In 2005, we bought this little TV/Radio and TEN batteries.... never used it yet, and the batteries expired in 2009 PLUS the TV no longer will work due to the digital changes. We checked it, radio works, car or batteries. woo hoo

Friday AM we stocked up hurricane supplies for 2 weeks, the first thing on the list, was Batteries. This morning at 5 AM we went to Walmart and bought the below batteries. 40 dollars worth.. the small one on the left was 12, those are hearing aid batteries for the aid my husband broke and glues back together that no longer HEARS very well.

I know this because the TV is blasting as I type.

I am pondering this... Why of Why do they put 8 C batteries in a  pkg when I need 10

and 4 in the D when I need 3.... Yes, someone has suggested solar flashlights, no we have not purchased one.

Tricks of the trade, see above..... I have 8 of these cans, we use them for all kinds of things from sugar to flour..... I can't bear to throw them away.... so IF Isaac heads this way, the 8 of them will be filled with water and stacked to use for flushing the commode.... that is my trick for today... write this down.

Praying for your safety today, dear friend.
When we moved, we had about 30 of the red Folger's coffee plastic cans with various odds & ends in them! It's just hard to throw something with a handle on it away!!!!!
God bless all of you in the path of the storm.

Oh No, not again...you seem to have a lot of those at this time of year don't you? Smart little TV, a shame it won't work but good that the radio is working then.
Hope you're having a good Sunday.

I hear Florida is a great place to live but I don't think I would like the hurricanes. We have lots of tornadoes here and I don't like them either but they don't cover as wide areas as hurricanes do. You all just stay safe!!

Oh, I love those cans and use them for lots of things. They come in very handy.

I am with you on the batteries, there is always not enough or more than I need in a package.

Have a great day. Hugs

Stay safe. Living through a hurricane is something I know nothing about and am not sure I really want to find out.

O.K., I wrote it down. The Chicago area is not prone to hurricanes but one can never be too prepared.

Seriously, keep safe!!

Best,
Bonnie

THINKING OF YOU!!!

I see that the Convention timing has been tinkered with, too.

Be aware, as you always are. Be safe!

As to flushing the commodes, with no power.... One summer time our neighbors and we used pails of water, from our pool, to do that necessary job! -grin-

Be safe!

Glad you're prepared and that all your fur and feather friends can count on you to prepare for them too. I laughed at 'the TV blasting.' My husband thinks I have TV or radio up too loud, but it's that darned ambient noise that gets to me - fans, AC, (little boys fighting,) whatever! And all my British mysteries? I have to have it loud enough to understand what they're saying.

Stay safe!

Prayers for your safe keeping. I too collect the plastic CoffeeMate containers. I put flour, sugar and all sorts of other things in them.

I miss being able to use my little TV like you have since Digital came into play. It was great to have when the power was off.

GOD keep you safe.

Good idea on recycling those containers. We stay fairly well stocked up, but hubby will be finishing up this afternoon. Prayers your way as they go up for our area, too!

Just a note to say that I'm thinking about you.. Stay Safe... Hopefully, the worst of the storm will miss you...

We had a fabulous party for Dad Adams.... Lots of family came from all over the country --and I saw many old friends from my old church...

Hugs,
Betsy

We don't have hurricanes but we have other weather that takes our power.

We always have water stored plus we can carry from the creek. We have a wind up flash light, tons of candles and old kerosene lamps.

Stay safe.

I really hope that the storm doesn't do any damage at your place! I will have to say 40 is a lot of money for not that many batteries. One trick that I learned from the big power outage in June, from others our electric stayed on, is to get those solar power lights for your walkway and use those in your house at night. If I think of anymore tips I'll let you know!

Tell Isaac that you already had your quota of wind and rain this year :)
I hope that you won't have to use the batteries and the coffee containers.

We're prepared here as well, but we should be fine. I've been thinking of you. You should be fine, but you never know about these things. I'm running behind. Please forgive me. LOL

I had been watching it on the news the last couple of days. It looks like you have a lot of things ready if it hits. Now you need prayers from us it won't. You got them from me. sandie

It looks like your all set if Isaac comes too close. It's really hard to tell from the info I have but I hope doesn't gain any more strength. You will be in my thoughts.

Those are my favorite cans too, I love the handles.

How are you doing hurricane-wise? I'm catching up on your posts - even as I speak there's a new one - love all the info about food, getting in emergency supplies, petting animals etc. and hope you are keeping safe and well.
