Dawn IT!

I was first introduced to the wonders of Dawn Dish Detergent in January of 1984. bob had a 24 foot cabin cruiser, see below..... Each week end, I laid around in the sun getting tanned and he cleaned the boat with Dawn and Clorox and the boat just sparkled.  He taught me this, if it is greasy, stained, glass, or a boat.

Just Dawn It!
Bob and Sandra on Tara J, January 1984

For sparkling glass, Dawn it!

Glass topped tables? Slidling glass doors? Oil lamp chimney? Glass animals?

Dawn It.... he even washes our cars with it,  but the trick to that is two small drops of Dawn in 4 gallons or water. Swish it all off with the suds, spray it clean and wipe with an OLD, very OLD towel that has lost all its Terry... if it is a new one it leaves terry junk all over the car. (we use our old pool side towels, the sun eats the terry off really fast)

See all the glass???

To clean the glass doors or table top, make suds with dawn, use an OLD washcloth and wring it as dry as you can, wipe off the dust, dry with a very old dish towel OR paper towels. it will gleam.

If you have been blessed with a dishwasher, you can't use Dawn and don't need it, since you can put everything in the dishwasher and let it do the work.

(do not put the car, boat or table in the dishwasher, silly)

PS I have never owned a dishwasher and neither has Bob, except for the two legs and two arms kind, which is ME.

for those of you blessed with a dishwasher, I saw this on Misus Fixit

Mix Borax and Baking Soda 1/2 and 1/2 in a jar and shake it. Pour this in your dishwasher detergent side and add white vinegar to the rinse side and Voila. Cheap Stuff for all of you blessed with dishwashers, the electric kind.

I'm a Dawn user!! We have a dishwasher but once the children were grown and out of the house, my husband said "we don't need to use the dishwasher unless we have company". I said: "O.K., but I'm not doing the dishes." Now he's my dishwasher and he uses Dawn!!

Why are you up so late? Better yet, why am I up so late?

Best,
Bonnie

I have been a Dawn user for many years, it works for everything. I do have a dishwasher but not everything can go in it so it's by hand with Dawn for those things.
We use it on the boat, car, patio, etc.
Dawn is also the brand of choice to clean up oil spills like the Exxon Valdez spill in Alaska. The company sent a truck load of it up there just for the spill. Dawn saved a lot of sea birds and animals.

omg, I could almost swop Mr.T for Bob, he's lovely.
Don't tell him though. lol

Sadly we can't get dawn here.

when Dawn first came out I didn't like it because my hands would dry out and crack really bad every time I used it. They must have changed the formula a bit though because it doesn't bother my any more. Great tips here and since my dishwasher moved out when she was 24 I have to do all my dishes by hand.

I've never had a dishwasher either besides me... My daughter was so excited when she moved out to have a dishwasher...she told me the other day she never uses it she still hand washes... Dawn is great you can use it on your dogs too...love that photo of you and Bob on his boat

I used to use dawn all the time, then they changed the scent of it...sometimes I can still find the original scent...but just cannot stand the new smells. But I didn't think of using it for windows, etc.

'Dawn' rocks hu? Good to know.

Yes, have dishwasher and it does do good 'sparkles,' on glass stuff. Like my little crystal fir tree...

Dawn is great to bathe a dog with too. Suds them up and let them wait a few minutes before rinsing; it will kill any fleas that might be on them! We wash our cars with it too.

Well now I'm going to have to buy a bottle of Dawn. My windows are dirty and I hate hate hate cleaning windows. I always put vinegar into the dishwasher and it does work. Nicely.

We have found both Dawn and Ajax dish washing detergent to be great grease cutters. I always put a little Dawn in my homemade glass cleaner, and just a drop. Thanks for the tip on the electric dishwasher. I'll use it! I hate buying dishwasher detergent. The new box of Cascade is $5.98 at Walmart and the box of Finish was $3.67, same size. Still, your recipe is cheaper and I have those ingredients on hand because I use them for my homemade laundry soap!

We love Dawn here too, but I never thought to use it on all those things, like eyeglasses. Can you use it on your windows as well? We use it on our cars (when they are lucky to be washed) and I'm sure we used it on our boat as well. It's a great product, but only you could make a Dawn bottle look like blue art.

I should say thank you so much for all these tips.

i have a dishwasher but i also handwash, too. and i prefer dawn for that. now, i'll have to try dawn for window / glass stuff.

Same here. Dawn is the only dish detergent we use. Use it on the cars too. I use just two or three drops in a bucket with warm water to mop my sealed hard wood floor in the kitchen. (not that I mop very often) Since the ads using it on oil spill animals, we used it to bathe our naturally greasy dog. Love it.

Great tips! I had to use Ivory because anything else made my hands break out, but since the Hubby retired and started doing dishes, he buys Dawn and it certainly does cut grease. Good to know about the other uses! Thanks. Do you still have the boat?

Val said...

and you can *DAWN* it if you pups come into contact with the dreaded striped cat!! aka the SKUNK!! I know, unfortunately experienced at this one. Great tips Sandra :)

Well Dawn it!
I never thought about all the uses for the liquid.
We have a dishwasher but I still do a lot by hand. I'll have to remember your tips.
Love your sense of humor and that's a great photo of you and Bob.

ps
Neither of us were raised with dishwashers. After we were married our first apt. had a dishwasher...I thought i had died and gone to heaven. When we moved to our first house I got a dishwasher plus a frost free freezer, when we moved to this house I hit the jack pot, dishwaher, frost free freezer and self cleaning oven...I'm a happy lady now if I can just find that maid he promised me.LOL

This is the cleanest blog I have ever seen! Your home looks beautiful! I wish I could come and see you! Well, maybe you wouldn't like that....I tend to drool....have a fun weekend!

The dishwasher is not all it is cracked up to be. The newer versions, in the name of energy efficiency, are pretty bad. And the eco friendly detergent is even worse. I should go back to Dawn It.

Have you seen the Dawn commercials where they wash the little ducks in it to clean them up from the oil spills? Adorable!
A great product!

Gosh...I will have to try Dawn on my sliding glass door tomorrow. Thanks for the tip. We finally have a dish washer here in the apartment. It feels like luxury to me.

It seems you have made a clean sweep on this post, Sandra. We also use Dawn and while we have a dishwasher, it is not rainy every day.

Chatty Crone said...

Okay are you telling me you just put about two drops of dawn in water and that cleans everything?

I tried Dawn years ago and it caused the skin to peel from my hands. I have some heavy cleaning to do that I know Dawn will do the job so I picked some up last week. Hubby said if I still cannot use it he will do the cleaning for me. Yes!!! I may pretend. lol Hugs

DawnTreader said...

Well wouldn't that bottle look just right on my kitchen sink! (LOL on the name vs my blog signature) I've never seen the brand here I think. I usually try to keep to mild and perfume-free and environment-friendly stuff as much as possible. I don't have a dishwasher.

EG CameraGirl said...

I use Dawn, too, and love it. :)

Sandra, I have the same style dishwasher as you do!

Every thing twinkles at your place. You must enjoy cleaning.
I have stopped that because I just can't see so well. I let others take care of it sort of:(
We have the electric but never use it.
