Ladder Love Lament

This all started with Boom, boooomma boooma, the sound of an avocado rolling across our roof. That is the noise we hear when the Resident varmints eat part of the avocado causing it to fall.

They usually THUD on to the ground and I run outside to do "grab the avocado before the dogs do patrol" but this one stayed on the roof..

Bob drags out the ladder while I yelp "that doesn't look safe to me and remember you are 76 now"
Needless to say as you can very well SEE what he did.

Since he was up there he decided to clean the leaves off the roof while I stood on the ground watching and waiting to catch him when he fell off (I did do a little snapping while watching and giving unheeded advice at the same time I ran in circles saying The Sky is falling, the sky is falling)

We ended up with this mess below and me hollering speaking in a quiet lady like voice at Baby to leave them alone. Out of 5 avocado, 4 went in the trash. Dang Varmints

AHHHHH retirement life is soooo exciting, red neck fireplaces with burning pine cones, varmints in the trees eating avocados and varmints on the ground trying to eat avocados...

Woof! Woof! Oh my, I suggest he should wear a shirt and proper footwear ... for safety reason. Those are huge avocados. Happy Friday. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

Those are big beautiful avocados, too bad the "rodents" make such a mess of them. The way that ladder is sitting would make me nervous too, it looks shaky.

Glad that all went well! I've never seen such big avocados.

At 76, your husband is still able to do so many things. And I'm glad he finished the task safely too. Avocados are very nutritious. It's a waste thought that part of it is eaten by varmints..

I'm glad that you did not capture any photos of Bob in mid-flight off the roof!! Those photos make me dizzy just looking at them.

Best,
Bonnie

I can imagine all the pictures you would have gotten if Bob had fallen. LOLSeriously,I am happy he didn't fall.I hate having people up on the roof,it looks so dangerous.

Men. The roof doesn't look very steep and I guess he knew what he was doing. The avocados look great. Too bad they get chewed on.

Oh my, you did have an exciting day! Yea, I get a little antsy when hubby gets on the roof, too. I know he is careful, but accidents do happen. Glad Bob made it safely down. Well, I guess he did...you didn't say!! :-)

He and my dad are so much alike! My dad is 66 yrs old and he won't stop. He still does everything around the house himself. My son does go to help, but my dad is impatient and hard headed! LOL He says when you stop is when you will have problems. He's never had any health issues. :)
I love your hubby's hair!

MOL MOM SAID SHE WAS DIZZY OR MAYBE IT WAS DITZY...SHE MIGHT NEED A PILL TO READ THIS. LOL
My dad was cleaning the gutters about 10 years ago..to save forty bucks.
The ladder slipped...he rode it down the side of the house, broke his elbow, cost 2K to fix him and he lost his ladder privileges. LOL
Hugs Madi and her dizty mom

Somehow, I don't think he should be on the roof. I'm glad he made it in one piece though and the avocados are amazing! Huge! I've never seen them that huge on trees in California.

You asked about the house. It belongs to the donkey rescue owners who now live in Texas and have moved the rescue there. So it's all up for sale. So sometime in the future, we'll get new neighbors.

Did he really climb there? Wow, That was really brave. He probably got used to climb that high.

The difference between your husband and mine besides the fact we do not have to clean avocados off anything is your husband gets to run around in shorts and no shirt and mine has to stay bundled up in long johns and sweaters, LOL

"'varmints' in the trees" ... you must have been really mad at Bob to call him that. Bwahhhh! Sorry about your avocados but it made for a great post! Glad Bob is okay. I love the dog blog.

That ladder did not look safe at all! I'm laughing out loud because he was bare foot up there! lol I guess where you live ya probably don't wear shoes except when you go to the store! I only go bare foot inside the house. My tender feet could not handle that at all!

Well, I'm only a year late with my comment..but I have to admit that at 76 I was still climbing up ladders..but not on the roof top. Still..maybe shouldn't. Yep..it's dangerous! LOL Beautiful hair on your guy! I thought he looked pretty darned confident up there.
Howard has finally stopped climbing up on the roof..I think. He was still doing it last year..but this year..nope. He stopped. (I hope) Maybe 80 is the cut off! :)
