January Fresh Fruit

Sunday at break time, this is what I had. Fresh picked off the Ruby Red grapefruit tree in our front yard. Bob planted the tree from a seed 25 years ago.... see story HERE  about Bobby Appleseed Grapefruit seed

this is how I eat mine, with a spoon....

When it looks like this I squeeze the rest of it in my bowl and drink/slurp

Yes, these are sitting in the same sunshine stripes from my dishes, different day, different subject. the stripes are their all morning, begging me to snap

this is how Bobby Appleseed eats his... peels and eats in sections. I do this to when I am not to lazy to peel.

Years ago a man I worked with told me when I get a cold, to heat a cup of grapefruit juice in the microwave and sip it. It taste so good, I do it when I am not sick... Juice works, but I squeeze pulp and juice in the cup, one of these makes 8 ounces.... yum.. and it is better for a cold than chicken soup..

Mmmm...I love grapefruit season! But I bet that tastes way yummier and fresher than what I buy up here in the grocery stores!

Beautiful fruit in the sunshine. I have a memory from childhood of daddy halving the grapefruit and then "cutting" along the segments so I could dig them out easier with my spoon!

I agree with Bob, I like to peal mine but I have no tree in my yard. There are several people in our neighborhood who have trees one person has a regular grapefruit tree and the fruit is good also.

Oh my! They look yummy! Beth loves grapefruit but all the ones here are awful! I think they picked them 100 years ago.... Bob certainly knows his stuff!

Something that one can't beat FL for... Go out and pick your own fresh fruit!

Husband loved doing that, with the orange trees, in the yard behind where we stayed in FL, that year. :-)

At least you get fruit from his 'jungle' Dad's tree never had fruit, probably because it was indoors all the time!!!

I love grapefruit too!
But I have never heated the juice but I will certainly remember that hint the next time I have a cold.

I'm envious -- fresh grapefruit off your own tree. I confess that I eat grapefruit the same way Bob does. Maybe it's a 'man' thing.

The only "fruit" in our yard is me, the nut who goes out in the cold!

Gorgeous grapefruit and right off your own tree! Lucky you!

My hubby peels them like an orange when I get him to eat one

Wow, it is so pretty, too. A willing snap subject. It must taste amazing right out of your yard!!!! Totally fresh and just picked.

I have a grapefruit from a California tree in a friend's garden in my fridge. I think I will have it with my lunch. Great pictures as usual!

I'm getting jealous of all of the fresh fruits you guys have in your yard! lol I'm sure your grapefruit taste way better than store bought any old day! My husband brought home some strawberries from the strawberry lady who drives down to Florida and picks them and brings them back here to WV and sells them to people in offices. They are way better than the ones at the store.

Ok,now I REALLY want a grapefruit.Trouble is that the ones I can get here will taste nothing like yours.I have grapefruits fresh in Texas and after that the store bought ones don't cut it.

i do that with lemons - i squeeze one or two - along with their pulp. either add it in to hot green tea, or just add a bit of water and drink it, depending how i feel.

My mom and I were just talking about grapefruit. We both need to eat more of it. I like blueberries and eat some everyday. :)

I love grapefruit, especially the Ruby Reds. I'm like you and eat mine with a spoon. I've never tried warming the juice but will give it a try next time I find some good grapefruit in the store. I miss getting them fresh from FL and CA.

Grapefruits are nice, I don't eat them too often though. How nice to have them growing in the garden.

My mouth is salivating looking at your grapefruit. Lovely shots in the sunshine. Reminds me to go and buy some citrus fruits - more enjoyable than taking vitamin tablets.

your close-up images are seriously great!

I'm amazed Bob grew that from seed!

Apparently grapefruit and some meds don't mix. I know my Hubby isn't suppose to have them.
I love them and could eat them just like an orange.
Fresh from the tree must be divine...I'm drooling.

Going to my kitchen now to find some berries or an orange:)
