Reflections on Reflections

In August of 2007. Diane and I went to Lakewood Ranch to wander down the brick sidewalks and windowshop/shoot
I realized I was looking at the green dress and seeing the palm and building behind me. I pointed it out to Diane and we happily took photos of reflections of reflections...

The buildings were behind my back, the mannequins in a window...

When What To Our Wondering Eyes Did Appear? see the little cart behind me in the below shot? it was a security guard telling us we could NOT take photos of the windows, we could take photos of the buildings and flowers and trees, NO WINDOW SHOTS..... I showed him these photos in my camera. He said very nice, but you cant take anymore.

Below are photos I snagged off Google Earth to show you what Lakewood Ranch looks like.
Only the VERY Rich live there and shop there....

Above shows the condos that are above the shops these windows are in, below shows the view of the buildings from across the street... we have not been back since then...

Oh goodness, those security people. I guess they have nothing better to do. You know what caught my eye? That pineapple lamp in the first shot. How cool is that?

That's crazy ... Cool photos... Not nice guard... Interrupting art at work..

Love the pictures, and the reflections are great :)
Enjoy your weekend!

Wow no photos of the windows...rules??? You did some very creative shots of reflections anyways, I liked them
funny to see the security car in the reflection

Cool pics...love the way they look. Funny about the security guard. I guess the shop owners are afraid you
might steal their design, go home and
whip up a bunch of those outfits and make yourself a fortune! ha! ha!

"Oh me oh my oh," you dared to wander, where the Very Rich live! "Gracious me," it's a wonder you weren't "arrested", for being so brazen!!! -chuckle-

Reflections-of-reflections is a great quest. I love a topic like this. And it's been tooooooo cold here, to wander downtown and take pics. -pout-

Oh yes! Isn't it nice, that although RICH people do live in places here, we ORDINARY people are still allowed to wander and take pics?!?

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for fun, along with great pics.

"Miss Debbie's" comment! Yes, yes. Steal their designs and sell 'em. It's funny, but I betcha' that's the silly reason, for this silly rule.

As if "bad guys" would be so obvious, while taking (phone cam) pics, of styles. Hehhhh... "Bad guys" would get pics, before any guard was alerted or starting their way, on his little FL golf cart thingy. ,-)

Mannequins have such an attitude, don't they? Love the palms shooting out of their heads. lol

That is silly....they have "window" police? Funny!

Crazy security guard...at least you got those wonderful shots before he arrived. I love the one with the mannequin looking up, excellent! Enjoy your day!

Before I say anything I have to say your shots are wonderful.

That was a great idea and you executed it perfectly.

As for the security people, I was a window designer for a little shop in Maine when I was younger, and, I can tell you retail takes their window designs very seriously.

They wouldn't want a retail spy snapping shots of their window design and perhaps copy their ideas.

Oh my goodness we are a silly society some times. But I love it!

I hope you have a great weekend!

It amazes me - how many rich people there are in the world - it isn't me. But I love to see their things - I liked a couple of those dresses. Funny you can take pictures of almost everything - but not what was in the window.

Very interesting. Strange that you can't take photos of windows.

I'm sure you and your friend did NOT look like criminals who were photo'ing the shops you wanted to break into later, but I guess rules are rules and the security guard was just doing his job. I had a jewelry (costume, mind you) vendor at a flea market practically attack me when she saw me raise the camera to my face. She actually started yelling at me that I was NOT to take pictures of her booth. I wasn't even looking at her stuff. Sometimes I wonder what the big deal is. Be careful around railyards, water towers, bus stations, and the like. Since 9/11 those places are off limits for photographers in most places.

interesting. guess they're afraid of designers stealing their ideas?

Darn those street cops. Must be a relatively crime free area, that that's all they had to do was watch you and your friend taking photos of window reflections. Great photos, and good angles. You're luck they didn't make you erase the photos on your sd card!!! I've had that happen to me!!

Hope you have a good weekend.

This place is very, very pretty! But they kinda sound like rich snobs. Not ALL of them, mind you. Hey, two of these ladies have palm trees growing out of their heads! Those are my favorites. They are hilarious, all rich and dressed fancy, with palms growing out of their heads.

You were having such fun - sun shining,
great shots of reflections and on the surface everything looks good - then along comes the attendant to spoil things. Does anyone actually browse there as the place looks empty? The palms look whitewashed and I do like the pineapple lamp, but I can understand why you haven't been back.

I don't know why window shots would be prohibited, but I'm glad you got these before the security guy showed up.

Love the reflections of reflections. Very arty!
I've been stopped from taking pictures at the State Fair. I wanted pictures of some metal Ladybugs and practically got attacked saying no photos of his work.
I know when Hubby and I worked in the trade show business that clients were very protective of their products and didn't want photos taken. Lots of sabotage happened. So it is understandable but crazy anyway.
Public places with private rules.
Anyhoo, I love the mannequins and their poses, especially the one with her nose in the air.

Funny about the pic taking. I do love the reflections!

Sheesh...what's the world coming to when you can't take a pic of a shop window?! Those are terrific reflections. Glad you got them before Grumpy Cop came along.

There has always got to be a party pooper!

I would call these ghost shots...for some reason they remind me of Ghost Town by Cheap Trick.

Ruth Hiebert said...

Hey,this must be a rich place,if they even have security guards.I do like those reflections shots. They are just kind of cool.

barbara l. hale said...

Cool pics! It's interesting to me that the reflections are more clear than the stuff in the window. Darn those darn security guards anyhow. What a paranoid world we live in!

Just Mags said...

That is one swanky place. The reflection pictures are amazing. Why in the world do they not want you to take pictures of the windows? I am glad you got what pictures you did I enjoyed seeing the reflections. Hugs

That is so weird! I've heard of the place but haven't been there and really no reason to go.

Great reflections that you caught before he caught you.

I love the reflections...those guards do not know an artist when they see one.

EG CameraGirl said...

I don't believe the security guard knew what he was talking about. I doubt you could not take photos from outside. Inside might be a totally different story. Just sayin!

brilliant reflections!
looks so beautiful and artistic!

i can't understand why window shots would be prohibited...that's kind of weird.
anyway-i totally enjoyed your photos!!

Those are very cool shots. They remind me of that tutorial you sent me for layering the 3 pictures together. I can't believe they wouldn't let you take pictures of the windows. That's just crazy.

You know how much I love reflections especially when there are reflections of the reflections. I really like the floating mannequin head.

As some have already said, the retail trade is very protective of their displays both on the floor and in the windows. Even grocery chains do not like photos taken in the store especially of displays. The manufactures, even more so. I had to sign nondisclosure agreements before I could work for them.

Sandra, has a similar experience happened in. Mall when I was just taking photos of the interesting architecture. A security guard to,d me I could not do that. I do know about artists not wanting their work to be photographed especially at shows. My interest as yours is only in an interesting photo, sadly other folks have other plans.
