Flower Power - Staghorn Plant

After my out side the box SnapAThon with the Kings Mantle from yesterdays post, I aimed at pieces of the baby stag-horn...

Below is my in the box  in the basket shot of the whole baby stag-horn . this was a very small piece that fell off a couple years ago and it is growing fine. it will encompass the basket and bob will add a big chain to hold it up.

below is the mother plant and the baby from 2 years ago, the log the little one was on rotted after the woodpecker made it full of holes.

That is one unusual plant. The world is full of unusual plants, I guess. But I am glad to be introduced to this particular one. Thanks!

Very unusual looking plant! I've never seen one before. Wild how it doesn't need dirt in the basket to help it to grow.

Really like the staghorn plant. Are they abundant in Florida or do you find them just here and there? How fast do they grow?

It is kind of ugly, but SO cute! Kind of like a baby monster. I have seen one before at a Botanical Garden.

very unusual.... I wonder who named it and why? I am doing some blog catch up...not feeling well enough to answer each post but am reading them :)

Totally fascinating Sandra.
I guess your tropical weather just grows plants we can't do here on the West Coast.
Keep 'em coming...both inside and out side the box.

what a cool plant that is. So they just grow in the basket like that? No dirt required?

I am so fascinated by the Staghorn plant. It looks so exotic and a little alien. The mother plant is amazing.
