Card from Blake Hospital

Last week this tri-fold card from Blake Hospital came addressed to my husband.

I opened it to read to my husband and the more I read the more I laughed. It was a list of things he should not do to keep himself safe from falls.

The card said:  Prevent falls, read these safety tips...

1. Get Up slowly after you sit or lie down...
(is this before or after he climbs down off the roof with a chain saw in his hands?)

2.Wear shoes inside and outside the house and avoid going barefoot or wearing flip flops.
(in the 30 years together, the only time he wears shoes, is when he gets out of the truck, both trucks have flip flops that live in them so when he gets out he can wear them in public places)

3. Improve lighting in your home by installing brighter bulbs.
(guess how he changes the light bulbs? on a 2 foot ladder standing on the top rung)

4. Put a phone near the floor in case you fall and can't get up.
(if he fell with a phone in his hand he can't hear on it, he could say HELP but would not answer when they asked why)

The card gave us a few moments of laughter and went in the trash.

We have never received Advertisements from the hospital until this year. It reminded us they are 1.6 miles from us and have a NEW TRAUMA CENTER... they even included a MAP...for Pete's sake, they got his name because he has been in that hospital twice, we know where it is. And the helicopters fly over our house daily taking people there....

I think you should have sent the hospital a multi-fold note showing Bob doing what he does!! It's not too late.

Best,
Bonnie

It's quite strange for me to read that a hospital needs to advertise itself. :)

Hilarious! We should start a "no shoes necessary" campaign!

trying to be helpful, but with bob, there's just no hope... :)

I can't bear to watch my hubs when he's on the roof blowing leaves out of gutters. It's so high in the back since it's a walkout and the concrete patio is all across the back. I bought him one of those safety harnesses to wear, but he just scoffed at it and that was a total waste of money. We don't have a hospital nearby anymore, but we do have an ambulance service. I've asked him to get some gutter guards and install, but he thinks they wouldn't do the job and he'd still have to clean them when the whirlygigs got stuck in them. He's hopeless. :)

I think it says a lot when a hospital feels the need to advertise. Geez. It is a shame that medical has become more of a money maker than a service.

that's why medical care is so expensive...the advertising...government...don't even get me started...You GO BOB...keep doing what you do!!!

Your a brave lady. If I had a hubby like yours .

And he would do what your Bob does not a safety bone in his thoughts. Wow! On the roof bare feet and machinery. Oh ya. I would send the pictures to the hospital
like the lady said.

I think I would take a far away vacation too as he would give me the
willies. He falls. I would be the caregiver. Oh no not I.
A man is his own worse enemy.

A month vacation would do me or more. Give him a list od do it. Back in a month hope you get it done.

By then he may have had the chief of the hospital visit him.

Sometimes you saying things Bob using your outside voice is a deaf ear to him. Yet his ears may play harmony more to a stranger. Especially if the Ambulance is outside your door with the blasting sound . Hopefully that will get his attention.

Oh I hope he has good insurance.

Who would he call Obama. He has deals if one can get through.

He would need it for sure.

You gave me a chuckle. Sounds like Bob does his own thing pretty well :)

This is hilarious!!! Especially the part about changing bulbs to be safe, but he has to climb up a ladder to do it! We have Pegasus here. It is a helicopter at the big teaching hospital a half hour away. It lives on it's landing pad at the hospital, and comes over our house frequently to pick up traumas and fly them back to the hospital. Whenever I hear those blades whirring above, I get a pang of sorrow. I have pictures, I need to post them, maybe tonight now that you have given me this idea!

Well I can see why this would be wasted on your Bob! - but as general info to more fragile elderly people I think it's basically sound advice. Most falls among old people do take place in the home; and old bones break more easily than young ones... (I used to work as medical secretary to occupational therapists.)

From the kitchen had the perfect idea. You and Bob both amaze me. Glad this was a good laugh. I was hoping the title of the post did NOT mean you were blogging from the hospital!

Very funny Sandra, do both stay safe though. Wishing you all the best for 2014, thanks for your kind words on my recent post.

I'm so glad you found the humour in it. If it arrived at my house I would probably GROWL! :)

I bet one of those helicopters flying over spotted Bob on the roof and decided he needed those safety tips....lol

I don't know what to say because even though I never got such a card, I have to adhere to much of the advice they gave. Never mind why. But I so enjoyed this post and yours and Bob's sense of humor.

I know a 93 year old just like your hubby, though obviously a whole lot older. His children once suggested that maybe he ought not to get up on the roof anymore or climb any more ladders, but a 93 year old is going to do what a 93 year old is going to do, lol.

pretty amazing! you go bob!

Your post gave me a chuckle. Without a doubt they have no idea how agile and active your Bob is or they would not sent him all those preventive ideas. If he is anything like Gene that list would not have meant a thing to him anyway. Glad you both got a good laugh from the card, you can't ever beat a good laugh. Hugs

This almost makes me laugh...but then you know they charge us extra to pay for this. When Roger was in the hospital in Sept. they gave him this information packet and it had a barcode on it...something we will never look at...I told him I would love to have had a detailed bill just to see. I bet money they charged at least $10 for it.
