Random Pics and Thoughts

Selby Gardens

We receive letters from our power company stating we should purchase insurance on our appliances and all things that plug into the outlets, just in case of power surges damage.

Selby Gardens

The letter comes, a few days later we have small 3 to 5 seconds where power goes down/up. wreaking havoc with timers and clocks.

Selby Gardens

Last week, power down/up.. .....I reset the coffee pot ....2nd time power down/up and coffee pot goes POW crackle....I set the clock... the auto program will not set... words pour out of my mouth,

power down/up 3rd time in 2 hours...the pot goes POW Crackle...

this time I can set the clock and the program..it's a miracle, it still works.

Don't buy it Sandra, its all a scam to get your money. I detest insurance of any kind, sadly some are necessary.
Lovely pics though.

Well, it does sound a little fishy!!! I think I would just trust God and forget the insurance! :-) Beautiful photos...must be two pretty places!

Do NOT GET ME STARTED ON THIS SUBJECT!! WE HAVE NOTICED AS THE POPULATION GROWS HERE SO DO THE INFRASTRUCTURE PROBLEMS. THE DEVELOPERS GET THE OK TO DO ANYTHING THEY WANT W/O THINKING OF INFRASTRUCTURE i.e. electrical grids. In the spring two new 3 story condos (both with 500 units) open their doors to the flocks. The condos are located in a very quaint Cameron Village shopping center which opened in October 1949. It has been maintained and renovated beautifully over the years but nothing done to the roads surrounding it. Our days of visiting this lovely spot are number before long it will be too congested to drive or find a park.
I wonder how many drops in power they will have and how often their potties clog.
Ooooops I said don't get me started and I wrote a book

Where is Shelby Gardens? I was at Ringling many many moons ago. There is a big thing going on here in California with the power company and solar panels. They have given this project to about 20 companies and they all call each week. It is so annoying. They won't stop!!!!

Your photos are lovely Sandra. I covet that hummingbird feeder :) We have been very lucky with our power company. Even in the worst of the storms if the power goes out it comes back relatively quickly and I can only remember one time when we lost an electrical appliance. Our bills keep going up though :( Insurance letters from them? Yee gads, what next?

What gorgeous pictures! We have not been asked to buy insurance as yet, will do no good if they do ask us. We use surge protectors on most of our electrical items. I see no need to pay for insurance that will most likely never be used. Hugs

Write the power company back and tell them they should carry insurance to cover your appliances since the power surges are their fault. If it doesn't work, get a sundial and a wood stove.

Best,

Does seem strange! Lovely photos of Selby Gardens.

I would not buy the insurance, but I'd plug everything into a new surge protector and hope that works. I had a computer guy tell me once that we should replace our surge protectors every so often, I don't do it, tho. Kind of strange for a utility company to be suggesting that you buy insurance. I'd probably would give them a call and ask what's up.

Surge protectors..I've been buying them to put on everything. We are rural co-op and the power surges are RIDICULOUS...make me nuts...and they aren't just on/off...it's on, off, on, off- and of course something is going to fry!
And I second Cheryl's suggestion to use new ones and change them often. I have seen an old one melt.

Start boiling water and grinding your own beans!!!! Is that really the direction that we're headed? I thought things are supposed to get easier when we're older and out on our time!...:)JP

Mom and Dad always told my husband and I that you can go "insurance poor" if you buy any insurance that comes along. They said we had to take a chance. So, Over all these years, we keep remembering what they said and we go on the less side of insurance.

Sandra, your photos are remarkable!

Thanks for sharing the great photos, Sandra. Crazy thing with the power. I wouldn't think you should buy the insurance.

I never heard of anything so strange. You live in a city,a metropolitan area, right? And they tell you to get insurance! We used to have power outages up here due to the strong wind storms, but then they fixed it and now, no matter how hard it blows, we have no problems with power. It's supposed to be 50 - 70 MPH winds through the pass tomorrow night. So windy.

Pretty gardens! we have a few surge protectors. Nothing would surprise me anymore.

That sounds weird, never heard anything like it. Those pictures are beautiful. It's Friday again and heading in to work. Weather looks a bit so so but hopefully it will be a dry one. Have a lovely day and hope that coffee machine of yours will run smoothly. :-)

Great photos and a pretty good rant. Don't blame you though. We only get power problems in bad storms. We turn off computers although we do have power surge protectors too.

I think Bob may be correct about the "on-purpose" part. How saw that we cannot trust the motives of big companies anymore.

Chatty Crone said...

You know what? I never used to be cynical - but after all I've seen - I would not be surprised! lol And nice gardens!

I just realized I forgot to tell you I love that hummingbird feeder!

SquirrelQueen said...

I LOVE the hummingbird feeder!

They just want you to have insurance so you won't come after them if anything gets damaged. You might already have coverage on your homeowners policy. Make sure your surge protectors are in good shape and there should be no problems.

Hubs works for a power company so that's all I can say. LOL!

I guess I have a bias. Insurance is hard to collect with so much tiny print now. Only buy the essential few and make sure what exclusions are.
