MadSnapper TV... OH My

since this post has been in my drafts since April 25th, I will now push publish and hope you don't die of boredom.. that is why I let it sit and sit.

Last year I am ashamed to say, I did a post on how much I liked this show, Scandal.

I have removed the series from my DVR list....  it has now turned into a show about graphic sex, violence, murder and torture on the screen...

Browsing the GUIDE for DVR use, I found.....

..........a talking vampire dog......

..........Arnold Schwarzenegger PREGNANT, and........

a series called....are you ready for this?

are you sure you are ready? Can you handle this?

Californication.I kid you not...

Naked and Afraid.. new reality show on Discovery Channel. Naked, in the jungle and WHY the discovery channel, gives new meaning to the word.
I love a good action movie with things that go BOOM, and they do have violence in them, but I think the movies and TV series are just going to far now.

I found 5 movies we both very much enjoyed.
no sex...no one was murdered, tortured, raped or used four letter words in every sentence and no one  beat anyone senseless and bloody ...

People Like Us.
Legendary
Serious Moonlight....
The Magic of Belle Isle
Mighty

And from MIGHTY we learned a lot of good lessons. And I learned a lot about writing...
I rarely remember things from movies but Kevin Dillon quote about writing is stuck forever in my head.
I have been seeing each sentence as a picture in my current book by
Lee Child
61 Hours (Jack Reacher)

if you are a reader, try seeing what you are reading using this knowledge.

Every word is part of a picture. Every

sentence is a picture. All you do, is let

your imagination connect them together.

If you have an imagination that is.

Well, with a post like this, you should be getting some interesting pop-up ads in the immediate future. Lol. We don't watch TV except for the odd British mystery. One is coming on PBS tomorrow night at 9 your time. Endeavor season 2. One of our favorites!

I never watch movies. Too much nervous energy I guess. I did watch Scandal in the beginning but it got too much for me, too. Mostly I watch HGTV...I like to poke fun of the young folks who think they get granite and hardwood for $90,000!!!!!

BRAVO! You are the only one I know who can complain and make it entertaining and not condemnatory either. I totally agree, I believe this is all part of the world getting more evil. People are so used to this stuff that they have to make it worse and worse just for the shock value. We have loved plenty of really good shows, and after awhile they ramp up the torture so bad that we had to stop watching. Two examples are Person Of Interest and 24. Your show list is hilarious! It reminds me of way back when Jay Leno was not well known, he did a bit called "What's In The T.V. Guide This Week". Too funny! But once he got famous, he stopped doing it. I read some of those quotes, love that one near the end where she describes about how he had to live in his mind and books. Goody, I will check out all these movies!!

I could not agree with you anymore. I watch the commercials for the upcoming series and I am aghast. What they are putting on television is scaring me. I am so surprised. I just hope none of us watch them and the stations see that.

I'm with you all the way on the "scandalous" offers on TV.We have cable TV in our East African "home" but no TV at all when we go home ti SA every ten weeks. When I see the parental control button, I have to laugh. My four-year-old grandson would have cracked that code two years already. Fortunately not one of our eight grandchildren (all living in SA) are exposed to TV. They all read up a storm, which Grandma loves as she's a book fiend. Thanks for the eye-opening post (not boring at all)

I have never watched scandal. I enjoy Rizzoli, and we really like Longmire. I enjoy the two NCIS shows. There's very little on that doesn't have graphic scenes in them anymore.

We watched Scandal this last year. I got very tired of it ...but Jim loved it so I guess we will probably watch it again this coming season. You are right about all this garbage on TV. Just wish they had things that were not so violent and trashy! Your movies that you watched look good. We do not even have a video store near here anymore. Netflix and Blockbuster killed them. We had Blockbuster but that went under. Ho Hum

How are you feeling?

We have reruns all summer.

So not really a fan of T.v except soccer now at Brazil. Of course rooting for Holland to win.

I do like America's got talent

but then it is getting ridicules with the contestants. Then Howard he can go anytime as a Judge.

American Idol I used to like. Now it does not interest me.

TV where did all the nice programs go. Moral programs. Now as far as Movies in the theaters. Sex and more sex.

Nice speak your mind blog Sandra.

I'm with all of your commenters.
It's so hard to find anything worth my time on TV anymore. Even the commercials are pushing the edge more and more.
We do end up watching BBC some. Hubby loves Top Gear and car racing.
Sometimes I just zone out on HGTV.
Why does everything have to be sex and gory violence. I guess it just desensetises our moral convictions.

We haven't watched any of those shows you mentioned. I loved "The Magic of Belle Isle". And, I've read two of the Lee Child books. Imagine my surprise when Tom Cruise was cast as Jack Reacher in the movie. Really? Tom Cruise????

Thanks for your help. I have now expanded my left side and shrunk the right!! Been trying to figure that one out for ages.

Best,
Bonnie

You named 2 of my favorite movies, Lethal Weapon and Die Hard...plus the additional ones.
I love to read and used to like reading the regency romances once in awhile, but they have so many sex scenes that I just had to quit. I think the authors must have to put that crap in the book to get a sale.
I'll have to check out the Lee Child books as I don't remember ever reading one.

Guess that is one of several reasons why I almost never watch TV and certainly not movies.Just not my thing, anyway,I would fall asleep as soon as it started.Tv does that to me.

My TV broke two weeks ago... I am not even sure what was on TV..maybe it was the remote? It kept blinking to different channels every time it was held by hubby. ha ha

I'm just going to say I agree. I don't know anything about Scandal (haven't heard of it), but I did see a blip commercial about that naked mess. Thought to myself- well there's another show I won't watch. Honestly, I am so glad I love to read.

Thanks for sharing the list of movies! The only one I have seen on there is Serious Moonlight.

I have seen several,of the movies you mentioned, Sandra, and here's another to add...Finding Normal which we watched streaming on Netflix. i can't comment on any TV shiws as we have no cable/satellite service and don't watch it. But, we do enjiy Netflix streaming and our preference is romantic comedies, animated, good non-offensive dramas. We will be watching Turbo tonite. We also recentky signed up for Acorn TV which is another streaming service for mostly British comedies, mysteries and some documentaries and at $50/yr cheaper than a minthky cable bill for sure.

We gave up on Scandal after about three episodes. We haven't seen many current movies, either. I guess I'm just getting old, but I'm glad not alone.

It's amazing to me that I can sit and flip through so many channels and not find anything worth watching. TV is full of garbage anymore. I normally stick with channels that show older shows. I may have seen the episodes multiple times but it's still better than watching the new shows.
We did rent a couple of movies a couple of weekends ago and neither one of them would have been worth the price of a theater ticket.

The Mighty is one of my favourite movies, I've seen it a couple of times in the past and I've tried to find it on DVD but not succeeded. (I've only tried my usual Swedish suppliers. My player only takes the European DVD format.)

On the rare occasion that we've stayed at a motel, i'm amazed at how many channels cable has to offer and not one of them anything we want to watch. Except for the occasional Masterpiece Mystery, we usually stick with our little cabinet of DVDs.

Great post.

I grow weary of sex, foul language, and violence too.

I watch little tv any more.

Wise words...wish I could write that well.

I still haven't seen Scandal. It's on Netflix now so one of these days I might take a look. There are a few shows on TV that I like but mostly we watch Netflix and Hulu Plus.

Speaking of Die Hard have you seen Reds yet? I like anything with Bruce Willis.

I have not seen ANY of the ones you recommend but we WILL!! Louis Dean and I are spending most of our evenings in the gazebo...talking and drinking wine. We would drink LESS if there was something decent to watch!!

We watch very little TV these days, occasionally we put on a DVD or something. Watched A Scent of a Woman with Al Pacino last night, one of my favourites.

I will keep Scandal on my watchlist (Revenge is there as well, amongst many others). But if you like something funny, I recommend Modern Family. It's a lot of fun! And for action, "24" is always the way to go.

Television is crazy these days and I don't care for the dirty stuff. The premium cable shows are definitely raunchy.

I love the movie People Like Us, I even own it!
