Summertime.. part 2

Photo of damage to our fence the raccoon are creating.. if you missed the former post on Raccoon Click HERE

Maggie Mae called my post a raccoon riot...

Raccoon have 3 to 7 in a litter and they can live to be 16

3 to start, next year there will be 9 and the next will be 27 OMR you do the math to find out how many we can have in 16 years.

Raccoon Riot for sure.

GOOD NEWS IS...Per raccoon facts, most do not live past 2nd birthday.

Their Natural enemy's... coyote, great horned owls and bob cats.
none of those YET

We have lots of not natural enemy's
they forgot SUV and Pickup trucks and Cars, so there is hope since we live on a busy street.
I found one man that said to try motion sensor LIGHTS in the yard..

OH MY, the lights would blink off and on all night keeping me awake..

Sometimes it's hard to remember all the damage some wildlife can do when the are so darn cute! Not so cute chewing your fence though. Hopefully the little critters find some place better to live.

Well I guess you need to import some bobcats [or maybe not!] Those rascally raccoons are so darned cute and such a destructive nuisance. I can't remember if you called the DNR or animal control. Sorry about the fence.

good luck keeping them out! they're tough on dogs, but my crew have eliminated a few.

Thank goodness the Raccoons around here don't seem to come into town (my fingers are crossed). It's bad enough with the invasion of the Grackles, Squirrels, Cats, Dogs, etc. This little town is unincorporated, so there's no leash law - the dogs just run free. Love your last photo!

So....what is the next step...wait a few days and see what happens? Maybe Mam will cart them off to someplace else far away! Hope about making lots of noise to get rid of them ...like banging on a kettle? LOLOLOLOL

Get the lights and cover your window at night with curtains or just throw a sheet over it or something. WHY do they eat the fence?? Do they need to chew? Does it taste good? This is crazy!! Your unfolding leaf has given me the vapors, it is so beautiful. LOVE LOVE LOVE!! I want to go to your yard and run around naked snapping in the sun! Don't try to picture it or you'll throw up...

If you have a pool they will swim in it. That is what happen to our Raccoon's at night. Po-pa and Mom ma took the kids skinny dipping and then after open up our barbie to see what they could cook up. Well they woke us up with the Bam of the lid to peek and then slam, slam shut. At Midnight.

Oh that is a nightmare to think how they can keep having those Kids.

Ginny's remarks made me laugh righ out loud.
That was quite a vision in my mind.
I hope the raccoon will not make your yard their permanent home. Sounds like you will have to call animal control.
Take care and I do love the photo of the unfurling leaf.

Are they chewing the top of that fence?
Maybe a big plastic owl strategically placed in the yard will scare them off

The rolled up leaf is a spectacular shot.Hope you can find a way to keep them Coons away.

I suppose we should be grateful we only have the squirrels to deal with!! Louis Dean is the dreaded Mr. McGregor!!!

I didn't realize they chewed. I feel bad when I see them on the side of the road and wonder how long they suffered. I'll never forget seeing a mom raccoon and baby a baby raccoon about 5ft behind her dead on the road in Orlando...sad. Hope they leave in peace.
Our pups have freedom!!

Oh, dear . . . cute but pesky little creatures. You might try the lights for a while and maybe they will move some where else.

Bob cats or just Bob??

Tell him not to catch this trespasser.

They are cute but obviously pests. That a shame. I have neighbourhood cats using my garden as a toilet and mating ground. I prefer the possums and wallabies don't know about Racoon.

I hope they don't overtake you! Your plants are pretty and green!

Rose said...

I would be getting at least one live trap...and I would move them to the country one at a time.

I hope you can find a way to 'encourage' the raccoons to take up residence someplace else. We've had our own little adventure with raccoons, so I don't envy you in the least.

Don't bother with the motion sensor lights, we have them all around our house. When the raccoons come to visit our patio the spotlights come on and the raccoons think it's a welcome just for them. They don't even blink.

So far we haven't had any problems with them doing damage or bothering things in our yard. They will come to the water dish, just like the possums, and get a drink then off into the night.

Cheryl @ TFD said...

Maybe Bob can trap them in a animal carrier of some kind and remove them to a rural area? Or call Animal Control and see if they would.
Two hours? Whew! (I just read your other post that I missed.)
Raccoons also like to dunk their food in water before they eat it. Have you seen anything different in the pool? :)
Hope you find a way to get rid of them, even if they are cute. We have one that comes up on our patio looking for something to eat. They are a nuisance.

LOVE LOVE LOVE! This is YOU at your BEST! A Shakespearean wonder. A forgetful entertainer. I am even worse now because I am having trouble talking and forgetting regular words. I think I have some aphasia from that bad fall last year. You are probably so used to going barefoot that you didn't even notice. We just got our phone number changed, and guess what? Now I can't remember my own phone number. I should have changed it years ago when I had more brain cells. It is on my computer screen on a sticky note so I have to look at it a lot. What are these wonderful huge leaves?

Debby@Just Breathe said...

They are chewing your fence tops? That is so sad :(

Dee said...

They are destructive little fellas...we have one who comes by each evening to check out Franks tomato plant he has on the patio. My daughter said she heard that once the tomatoes start to turn red the raccoon will eat it. Now he is paranoid and watching his tomato plant for any sign of red...then hew will bring it in the apartment each night. He does not realize I may eat it LOL
