Action Hero's and ME

In my prior post Hostage Situation I used 3 men from TV series and 3 men from the books I read...

I have been an avid reader of books since I was five years old. I made the comment that my preferences had changed,  but looking back they all have a common thread.

Fairy tales until age 10,  age 10 to 14 along came Tarzan, Bomba and King Arthur

Tombstone 1985

In the late 1950's I changed to all Westerns with a few historical novels with knights and warriors thrown in.

I love to see the cowboys walk down the street in long black coats and when the gunfire starts I am the happiest.. (NOTE: I actually prayed to turn into a boy until I was 10 and realized it would not happen. I wanted to be a cowboy Not a cowgirl.

Wyatt Earp: I just want to let you know, you're sittin in my chair.

Doc Holliday: I have two guns, one for each of you

Then along came a cowgirl I loved... in Dead in Tombstone.

Dead in Tombstone and 2 old Stewart and Widmark movies
Even though I love Action and things that go boom and flash and burn...

Ladyhawke the movie is one of my all time favorites. Big strong man, big strong horse, big beautiful wolf dog, beautiful damsel in distress...

I wanted the horse he rode and research says it was a Friesian Stallion

that originated in the Netherlands, Rutger Hauer's native country. The breed was popular among medieval knights.

There is a common thread from fairy tale to NOW...

I like Big Brave men, that feel no fear, adrenalin junkies. NOTHING is to hard for them to do.. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Think Bruce Willis.

I now am into Seal Teams, CIA and all those Initials guys.

My favorite and most read Book is Watchers by Dean Koonz, book read many times is none of the above but it does have a time traveling KNIGHT.. A Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux

YES Squirrel Queen, I do read SOME Sci-Fi.

Oh yeah, I like Sam Elliott too. That's a beautiful horse and beautiful black German Shepherd! :-)) We should have been neighbors growing up together. We would have been the best cowboys on the block and/or burned down the neighborhood. LOL

I like CSI cops now.

I used to watch all westerns.

My dad used to read all Zane Grey books. Now that is going back many moons ago. For my Pop.

From Wild, wild west

I loved Bonanza mainly for the young good looking guy.

Make my day. Tough, serious guy but cool .

I liked Maverick.

Glad your computer is back in order.

Tombstone is one of our son's favorite movies. I saw Ladyhawke and loved it. I love what they call the spaghetti westerns, they were made by Italian directors. Once Upon a Time In The West being my all time fav western! Did the guy fix everything? What had the problem been?

I like action in my books often and read some sci fi and fantasy among the mostly murder mysteries. Have you tried the "Game of Thrones" series? I am gaga over it but realize it's not for everyone. AND it takes a big time commitment.

I use to watch westerns as a child. :) The only reason I would want to be a cowgirl is to ride the horse and have a beautiful dog running beside us. :)
I like the strong, smart men too!

That Sam Elliot makes my heart swoon!!! Love your reading choices!
I like a good western from time to time. They just don't make them much anymore!!

Add me to the list of swooners for Sam Elliot! That's a gorgeous horse.

Glad your cable is back.

I've been in the bed with a stomach bug but feel better tonight.

Okay we like a little different movie selection - but that is okay.

Hey this is off the subject. Did you hear Robin Williams died today - I can't believe it.

Sam Elliott. Oh yeah, now we're talking. I love those strong, he-men types. So many movie stars today seem too skinny to be taken seriously as a big, tough dude. I like your movie and book choices.
I sent you an email about Photoscape.

Aha! I knew you had read some scifi! LOL!
I went through the fairy tale phase too then went to Lassie, The Black Stallion, My Friend Flicka and all the other horses. Then I moved on to westerns too. As a preteen I had serious crushes on Little Joe Cartwright, Rowdy Yates and Manolito Montoya.

These days I like lots of action with stars like Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel and of course anything with Bruce Willis.

I'm a total bore when it comes to movies and books. I like biographies and true stories. However, we have a new channel on TV called BBC FIRST and we watched a modern version of The Muscateers there was a lot of action and swashbuckling with handsome strong macho men. You would have loved it. It was a series.

I love the Ladyhawk too, a very good movie. Braveheart is another one. There's many great movies out there.
I've been a bookworm for as long as I can remember, love reading.

OMD The Friesian Stallion is magnificent. We too love a good action movie but thrillers are probably our favourite. Have a terrific Tuesday.
Best wishes Molly

You even make reading books and your history interesting.
I love your heroes.
I always wanted to be a cowgirl. When we finally got our first black and white tv, it was the westerns that caught my fancy.
Reading wise I really did love the 007 series. Read every one and thought he was the best.

I was never much of a reader. Never once saw a book in my parents hands. Now I do enjoy reading but never take the time. Some awesome western movies out there and I have watched several with my husband. Tombstone was a great one. One of my favorites is Unforgiven, there was a great message in that movie.
