Pltycerium is down again........

100 pound Pltycerium AKA stag-horn fern photo from archives
STAGHORN IS DOWN AGAIN... the wind blew it right out of the chains, and left them dangling. He just hung it back up for the 2nd time. 1st the chain limb broke off, 2nd the chains broke.

Our weather is doing the roller coaster thing AGAIN ... Friday  was 79 F and HOT...

Saturday morning we woke up to a cool 69 degrees going to 64, down not up and after dark dropping to 45 on Sunday am...

We woke up at 4 am to the sound of howling wind, wind that we could hear it was so loud..  and 45 degrees.. I said to Bob, that wind is scaring me... I did not find out until today, Sunday AM at 5 when I read about the tornado that touched down at 4 AM Saturday morning in our State park that is about 20 miles from us.
No wonder the Staghorn fell...

Excerpt from Bradenton Herald
Iit touched down in the Myakka State Forest as an EF-0. Winds were estimated at 85 miles per hour. IThe twister stayed on the ground for about one mile, snapping trees and tossing a ranger station trailer 40 yards away. The trailer was destroyed. No one was injured.

Yikes! Glad the rangers were safe. Sorry about the staghorn. And what's with that crazy fluctuating weather you're having!

That sounds scary! I don't like strong winds and any other weather except that. Glad no-one was injured. All the best Sandra.

Poor old staghorn--but lucky you guys were missed by the tornado.

One touched down 20 miles or so from my daughter, in California not too many weeks ago. And that is a rare occasion for CA to have a tornado.

No wonder you were scared. Lucky it didn't hit a populated area, 20 miles is not really far. Hope the weather settles down for you.

I am glad you didn't know about it, you would have been too scared! I tried out your new editing site and love it. BUT when I sign up it won't let me. No matter what password and e-mail I give them, they say it has already been taken. Maybe it had a glitch, I will go back and try again, but don't have much hope.

Oh Oh Oh, FORGET to tell you that I LOVE your header, everything about it is glorious, and it is stunning, clever, glorious, smart, and beautiful. One of your best!!! Truly I was stunned and it should be hanging in an art gallery somewhere. LOVE the way you have put your name in there too!

That fern just refuses to quit! That is hot for January, isn't it? Do tornados come though often?...:)JP

Wow that was pretty close. We get Santa Ana winds in the Winter months or we get rain. We have had winds all week long and they are so annoying. Glad that no one was hurt. Imagine if it had touched down on a community of homes.

Thank goodness it dropped in an underpopulated area.

I used to have one of those plants...killed it.

Well, I am glad you and Bob are okay. That is the main thing!!! The poor Staghorn. Now what?

Before we had our roof replaced I would get really nervous every time it got windy. Thank goodness we never had winds like that. Glad that tornado was far enough away from you that that was the only thing that happened.

Odd time of year for a tornado, isn't it? Glad it wasn't closer to you, but poor Staghorn. We didn't have the best weather while we were in Florida this year, but all things being relative, it would have been worse up in these parts.

Goodness- tornadoes in January- just crazy, but we had bad ones in December. I really want a storm shelter! Today we have roaring winds up to 25 mph. It makes me think something is coming in behind it.
