Reaching for Reacher...

2 years with my Kindle Paperwhite e-reader, and I have read only two books that were NOT in my Kindle.

One of my favorite authors is Lee Child, having read all 17 of the Jack Reacher series last Sept. I received notice the new Reacher book number 18, Personal, was out.  The library had no Kindle copy, but they did have one copy of Large Print, which is all I can read these days. I put my name on the hold list and was # 75.. This past week I received a call my book was ready for pickup.

Things I learned while reading a printed book
.
It takes 74 people five months to read one book... (Write that down, so you don't forget it...)

A book that is  9 x 7 in size and 2 inches thick requires 2 hands to hold it. (Kindle is 1/4 inch thick and almost weightless and can be held in one hand).

That same book is awkward to hold while reading through progressive tri-focals. (Kindle fits right under my double chins, easy to see)

The book caused my arthritis to  HURT in fingers, wrists, shoulder and elbows, ( I can read for 4 hours at one time with the Kindle, the book required frequent rest breaks),

CONCLUSION? when number 19 comes out, I will have to buy the book.

Do you have a favorite author that you have read every book they wrote? I have many.

PS... I had to DRIVE to the library, 4 miles of TRAFFIC with many traffic signals plus the GAS it cost me.

I use the kindle app on my ipad, and for me it has been the other way around. I read way more books the traditional way, then on the kindle app. But I do love to have my photography literature on the kindle app, so that I can take it on my shoot outs.

I like to read both ways. :) Sometimes a real book, sometimes on my e-reader.

I've read all of Jan Karon, Elizabeth Berg, Jennifer Walls, M.F.K. Fisher, Tanna French and most of Patricia Cornwell. I've also read several of Lee Childs and should read more. However, when that movie was made with Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher I thought it must be done as a comedy. Don't hate me but I can't imagine anyone least likely to play that role. I'm still torn re how I read. I really like the Kindle. Whew!

Best,
Bonnie

Thanks for telling us about this series of books. I pick up most of my books at the thrift store for about $1. I do enjoy the kindle, too...a gift from my brother many years ago. My sis just got a library book that she got on the list in Aug of last year!!! I am limping along on the new laptop - it's not complicated, I am just SLOW!

Hi Sandra, it has been a while since I have read paper book. I have trouble holding the heavy books too. I have the app on my ipad! There are several authors I love to read everything they write.. Happy Friday, have a great weekend!

Sandra, right now I am using 3 ways to get through "reading." The traditional way of getting a library book or buying one at a sale remains my favorite. Recently, I bought a Kindle Paperwhite and have been getting e-books from the library. Also downloading audtiobooks. Currently I am reading and listening to at least 3 books.
I've read many books by Elizabeth George, Donna Leon, Jan Karon, Charles Todd.

MOL MOL MOL ONLY MS WOULD THINK TO CALCULATE HOW LONG IT TOOK 74 SLOW READERS TO READ A BOOK. TOO FUNNY

I HAVE SEVERAL FAVORITE AUTHORS TOO.
I always read Kristin Hannah, James patterson, Stuart Wood, Craig Johnson and many others that currently escape my memory.

Madi has taken to trying to read the labels of her food because she says I'm adding things to it?!

I do not own a kindle. Not sure if I would like one.

I read so many books that last years.

Also my friends when they read. They bring me some to chose from.

I have different mixtures of books I like.

Well it's always good to remember why we love what we love.

I don't have a kindle. I do enjoy reading, but I prefer non-fiction. I don't read as much as I should. I read blogs more than anything. :)

There are certainly pros and cons to both systems. I LOVE my e-reader, but haven't given up paper books quite yet and I am addicted to audio books. Your statistics are interesting though and I had to chuckle at the tri-focal one. I feel the same way on that one.

I have an iPad 2, and it has a reader. But it is very heavy. So I still buy books. I do love the smell and the feel of books. I hardly read at all since I started blogging. All my reading time is spent on commenting. I am working on a Max Lucado book that I really love, but have been reading it for maybe six months. What do you mean...it takes 7 people five months to read a book?

I am afraid I have slowed way down on how fast I read...actually read slowly now. More that I spend time on internet than anything.

I am trying to think if there is an author that I have read everything by...I have read almost everything Zane Grey ever wrote...I used to always read Victoria Holt and Phyllis Whitney. Seems like now there is no one author that I always read.

I've read maybe two books on my Kindle and none on my Kindle Fire? Why? Unlike you, I hate reading ebooks. I'm glad that medium works well for you but I'm afraid I'm b book purist and even after having a Kindle and using it a couple of times I'll never voluntarily go back to it. On the other hand, my daughter would be lost without her Kindle. I shouldn't say that because she still hangs out in book stores and buys waaaay too many books. Me, I love going to the library and never think about how long it takes or how much gas it burns. It's one of my favorite activities. Isn't diversity wonderful!

I don't know what I would do without my Kindle. Before I got it I had given up on reading because every time I would pick up a book within a few pages I couldn't keep my eyes open. The kindle doesn't do that to me. Mine goes everywhere with me too. I keep it in my purse because you just never know when you'll get stuck waiting and need something to fill your time.

I have to admit I like to hold a book and sometimes if it is my own I like to mark it.

I think Mark reads that series.
