Labor Day - 2015

My 15 year old favorite beach shoes

As a child raised in a home that only considered holidays, Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter, Labor day was the day before school started back in session.

As I grew older, it meant going to the beach at Tybee Island Ga.  if I could find someone to take me... As a married adult it meant a Day off from work, unless I was working retail and that mean total chaos from Labor day Sales.

The last 13 years of my working days, I had 7 Holidays and 30 days paid vacation. A big change from over a hundred years ago, when employees were worked 10 and 12 hours a day, 7 days a week... Labor Day was to be a day of rest and to honor those who worked.

I worked, I earned, I retired... below words of wisdom have allowed Bob and I to honor the workers and enjoy our play time days. The first quote I borrowed from Ann at SnapEditScrap post today.

Sadly, too few people actually rest on Labor Day. Many will be out shopping for deals or getting in a last summer holiday which could mean driving in lots of traffic. And, of course, the holiday's deeper meaning gets lost. Thanks for the reminder, Sandra, and glad you have more time off now.

Today's labor day is a lot different than the ones I remember growing up but it's nice to have the day to not go to work and just do whatever.
I really like all those quotes. Sadly there are too many who don't necessarily believe the one about earning something first. It's turned into a gimme kind of world. That last one is so true. For example the lawn mower is not going to work to cut the grass unless one of us gets out there and works it....lol

My first job was with a retail store and we had to work, we did have an option to have another day off. We just left the Wegmans food store and they are open today till 1pm. So their workers do have some time off. Happy Labor Day to you!

Times have definitely changed. Hope your Labor Day will be a nice one. I liked when school started after Labor Day. Thankfully my children always started the day after too!

Your blog is so pretty with all these different colors and pretty little flowers and things. And I can see that I have now been outdone in the sunset department. Good to see you here again, says I who don't post much.

We had a good day!! Louis Dean did a little bit of labor - he worked on the deck in front of the camper. But it is a labor of love! My sister and her husband came down to visit! They are the first ones of my family to come see us down here on the ranch!
Love your quotes, love your blog and love YOU! Hope you are feeling better each day and that Baby is doing okay!

Thanks for reminding us how much life is today than it was a century ago!

We celebrate Labor Day on May 1st over here. You're right, we really should take time to appreciate more often how much has changed in a hundred years or so.
