Funtimes at the Carnival...

I love a good Carnival but this is not the one I visited Wed. of this week. SORRY in advance for the LONG story today. If you speed read and skip, read the last 3 paragraphs which is the point of the post.

I retired in Sept. 2006, the month before retirement I purchased 2 blue, 2 black fake Crocs. Since then I have only purchase 2 pairs of shoes!
(I'll wait while all the women get up off the floor from fainting at this statement)

I searched with the help of Google (yet another shocker) and found 2 stores that were less than 2 miles from home that sold Crocs. I love the comfort.

I found Shoe Carnival.... all the brand names and lots of easy walker sandals, yes, I know you are thinking it is winter, but not here, we wear sandals year round.

See the black shoe top right? that is what I wanted. I can't order shoes, I have 2 toes on left foot and one ankle on right leg that hurt in almost every shoe I put on. I HAVE to try on shoes before I buy.

I stepped inside a 3 acre store full of shoes and oh WOW a banner hung said buy one get 2nd half price... the girl at the counter pointed me to the Old Lady Sandal Aisle... (that means comfort not style)

I went right to this Clark's Liesa Cacti and they only had the shoe in Blue, not denim or dark but almost aqua. I slid my foot in and it felt like walking on marash mallows, did not hurt any of my pain points.

I wanted that shoe but I did not want blue, pulled out at least 10 different styles in my size and color and NONE felt good. Goldilocks could not find anything that wss Just Right except the blue.

If you know me, you  know I have been chatting like crazy with another lady who was 15 years younger, while we both tried on shoes.
The chatting started when  she said what do you think of this shoe, I said OMG you have to buy it. it looks fantastic on you leg, it elongates it. she said i don't need longer legs, I said come look in the mirror. She did and said I see what you mean.I have to have these.

I said well, I don't want blue so I will get nothing. She said wait. Did you try the clearance aisle around the corner? I turned the corner and there sat The Shoe in my Size. in the brown natural color. The sign said the clearance items were not a part of the buy one pair get the 2nd half price and were only 25 percent off,

I put it on and said to her Thank you, thank you, thank you, let me see what this will cost as I took it up to the darling and oh so pretty 18 year old cashier. I said what is the price, I will just get one pair and forget the 2nd pair. She said I will make an exception if you want to order the same shoe in black as your 2nd pair. It will be free shipping to your door by Monday.

She finagled and finagled the prices to come up with which one should be half price... I said can I use these printed coupons I got off the internet?  She said Oh Sure, never shop with out coupons.

She rang it up and said that is $98.00 and we can use the 10,00 coupon. But if you buy something for 2 dollars you can use the $20.00 off coupon. I grabbed Bob's favorite Reese's Peanut bar and she said you need 50 cents. she grabbed a pack of gum for 50 cents and said this will do it. Bingo....

I got to 2 pairs of perfect sandals,  70.00 each, for $80.00 for both, including tax.... Are you cheering now? clapping with me?
Guess what I did? i went to the Other Shopper who showed me the clearance rack and said will these coupons help you? she was delirious with happiness... she had enough shoes to use the 30.00 coupon....

The shoppers and the cashier were happy and we all had fun and laughter.... Yes, the girl told me she is 18 and the Other Shopper said she was 56.. don't even ask why we were discussing ages..You might have to read another 20 minutes.

PS: in todays email I got one that says the shipped my new TAN shoes... not the black we ordered.. OH WELL... back to the returns line.

I need a nap after reading this post--just to clear my head! First: You will never be friends with Imelda Marcos or my mother. Second: I read that paragraph re your feet and thought it said you had only two toes on one foot!! Third: I can't even remember what the third thing is!!!

Best,
Bonnie

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE CROCS TOO. I WEAR THEIR MARY JANE'S AND OPENED TOED ALL SUMMER WHEN I'M NOT IN MY WALKING SHOES. I HAVE A SIMILAR STYLE TO WHAT YOU BOUGHT THAT IS USE FOR BEDROOM SHOES. I HAVE A TENDENCY TO GET REOCCURRING PLANTAR FACITITIS ISSUES IN MY HEEL. WITH CROCS IT NEVER BOTHERS ME. I HAVE A POST NEXT WEEK ABOUT MY LATEST CROCS PURCHASE...WE ARE OBVIOUSLY SISTERS FROM ANOTHER MOTHER

I love this very fun shopping story. It is so great to go out and have fun with strangers and to get some good deals and good shoes too. I too haven't bought any shoes, except some snow boots (and I haven't seen snow since) and my hiking boots (shich are falling apart now) since 2006.

Hello Sandra, I enjoyed you shopping story. I always have to try on shoes and found the Clark's brand to be very comfy. I do love my croc sandals too. I am not a shoe addict or a shopaholic. Since retiring we watch every penny we spend too. Enjoy your day!

I think you did a great job and shared the wealth - maybe they will come in black and surprise you. I hate when that happens - can't they see what color you order!!!!!!!???????

Now tell me why would I want to skip any of this! I love your stories and how you talk to people...sounds a lot like me and Roger. We are 'friends' with most of the cashiers out at our Walmart. LOL There is one that it is hilarious to hear her and Roger...she is quick witted and so can Roger be so fun to hear them together.

Well that was a great deal but I cannot believe they are mailing the wrong shoe!!!! I can only wear Narrow Birkenstock because of an ankle issue.

Love this story. I'm so glad you could find the perfect shoes for your feet. (Even if it comes in Tan)
You sure have a way with words...Have a great weekend Sandra.

I need to try shoes on as well, and it's still tricky to know how good they will be "in the long run" (haha). I don't have any crocs but indoors at home I wear shoes not unlike those in the picture. For walking outdoors I can't wear shoes with open backs. I also can't wear high heels. But I do need to feel that the shoe gives good support so can't just wear "any" flat shoe either...

What a great story, you have so much fun when shopping. If I didn't hate shopping :( But I do need some good sandals as I have pain points too and have the devil of a time getting shoes, especially as I have an extra wide foot. I'm going to look into Crocs. Thanks for that Sandra :)

One of my daughter in-law she buys those great shoes in Florida across to the American side your talking about. She is young and her shoes are awesome sweet. So stylish. Wow I love the looks.

She gave me a pair years ago. I wore them on the cruise. Wow comfy. I wore them at my old place. Well snow is coming soon. We usually have snow on Halloween and then continued after. Now we are having lovely weather again these two days. Cold at first but warms up mid morning. They call it Indian summer. I could go for weather like you if it was not hot. I do not like hot,hot unless I am in the water. different story.

Wow Sandra I loved your story. I wished you lived close. I should of taken you to the hairdresser with me. I know you don't go to hairdresser but you probably could of told her a sad story to convince her I need a big reduce price for my highlights. your my sis. Ha.ha. I am bad.

Loved the shoe saga. Since my stroke, the limited shopping I do is with Dear Hubby. He cannot understand why I "have to bond" (his words) with sales clerks, fellow shoppers, or strangers encountered in the parking lot.

ooooh I like those shoes. Of course I won't be wearing sandals much for a while. We actually have a chance of snow in the forecast for tomorrow night. You got a great deal on those. You sure do have fun wherever you go

Sounds like you had a good time anyway.

Lucky you to be able to wear sandals are year long. I'd live in Flip-flops all year if I could but alas it does get COLD here in the winter. - That was a really great bargain you got. Enjoy your new shoes.

Sandra, I know what you mean about only wearing a brand of shoe that feel comfortable. For me, that brand is New Balance and so whenever I need a new pair of walking shoes, I go in search of that brand. Luckily, we are now living where there is an outlet store so my searching won't be as involved as your shoe tale (I hope). Glad you had a fun shopping experience even if you didn't get the black color (sigh).
