G.R.I.T.S. - Girls Raised In The South

Photo of water droplets on Dandelion Heads, hanging in the waiting room when I had my MRI

About Grits from former post yesterday....
I found History of Grits and there is so much I did not know.
I thought it was a Southern Dish, but we got it from the Native Americans. If you want to know all about it, click on the link above.
If you Care NOT one Whit...
MOVE ON

Go  Get Your Mitts On Some Grits is my advice

Grits MUST be cooked 20 minutes or longer
Grits MUST be stirred many times to prevent lumping and make smooth

'Grit' and Bear it! Three-quarters of grits sold in the U.S. are predominantly in the South, stretching from Texas to Virginia, which is also known as the “grits belt.” The state of Georgia declared grits its official prepared food in 2002

Can any of you guess where I was born and raised? Starts with a G and ends with A and grits is the
 official food.

Backside of  backyard hibiscus
My friend Jo, in Africa calls it Maize... In Italy is is called Polenta... It is all made from coarse ground corn which makes cornmeal, and it depends on how many times it is stone ground. I learned this on this site Polenta vs Grits

Done with grits FOR NOW, no promises for the future

I'm from that great state of Virginia! I never tasted grits until I was an adult and living in South Carolina. Love them with country ham and red-eye gravy!!

Best,
Bonnie

The meal for Polenta is more finely ground...I used to work at an Italian bakery. I always think grits must be made from hickory cane corn, but don't know that for sure. That is something I should look up.

Enough said about grits - I'm not changing my mind! You can have my share. But on the other hand, I find your hibiscus shot simply spectacular. And the photo in the MRI waiting room looks really pretty but the lamp is a detraction.

According to the little map in a gardening column in Southern Living magazine, the southern half of Missouri is in the upper south zone. Does that make me a GRITUS? ha! Actually, we're in the mid-west. Although, so is Michigan, Minnesota and North Dakota, etc, which is weird to me. I think of them as Northern states.
Love the color of the hibiscus. And I don't know if I've said, but I really like your colorful header!

Grits with salt, pepper and red eye gravy....sigh, I miss Texas....

Love the colour of that hibiscus. Didn't know that 'grits' is similar to 'polenta', which we enjoy in our house. Now I need to look up 'red eye gravy' and find out what that is.

I'll never think of Georgia the same way again. Lol That means my hero General Longstreet would have been very familiar with grits. I suppose I should try it again.:-))

Those are interesting facts. I do like cornmeal so do you think I would like grits. I'm a fan of farina, does it have that consistency. I do like that photo in the doctors office.

That's a great photo in the doctor's office. - Grits....so NOT a food I eat. I don't like oatmeal, grits, malt-o-meal, furina or anything remotely mushy. I don't even use milk on cereal as I hate soggy things.

Enjoyed your gritty post, and I do like my grits!
