Hooked on Hummas

I received this invitation in my email a couple of weeks back. Most of you know I am eating sensibility and slowly losing weight each week, and attending TOPS meetings for support.I eat very little processed food.. I found on week 15 I was hungry all the time. I attended the Sugar Buster Seminar and am so glad I did.

It was an informative meeting and when she asked for questions, I said I am doing all of the things you said we should, but I am hungry all the time.... after a few questions about how much meat I eat... NONE is the answer, or close to it.. I have never been a meat eater other than a burger or ham or bacon..once in a while. Pasta and all things white flour was my go to food.

Diagnosis?   Not Enough Protein....she suggested Hummas and suggested  Richards Foodporium for help.

I have never eaten Hummas in my life and had to look it up to find out what it was.

(Hummus is a Levantine dip or spread made from cooked, mashed chickpeas or other beans, blended with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt and garlic)

The personal service from a kind young woman who is vegan, helped me so much. I am now hooked on this HUMMAS... it is made locally, non GMO and no preservatives and fresh daily. One container is only 3.00 and last about a week, I buy two and go back every 10 days. It would cost more to buy a blender and all the ingredients. My hunger is gone, eating HUMMAS and Plain LowFat Greek Yougurt and lots of bean dishes, and a few eggs with cheese and I am losing 1 to 3 pounds a week. I did try Banza pasta, made from gabanza bean flour, but was not impressed. Bob refused to eat it. He is losing weight also from the way I am cooking.  He came in from the workshop and said Watch This ad held his arms up over his head and his shorts dropped to the floor. To Big.. NOPE! no photos..

Hummus is one of our household staples...and I do think it is cheaper to buy rather than make oneself.

Interesting post! It will help a lot of us out here. I am not a hummus eater but will look for this next time I shop. Hopefully I will find something just as healthy. Thanks Sandra and good going on the weight loss.

We do like hunnus and I didnt realize how helpful it could be with weight loss. I have not had the version made with black beans, but have tried store bought ones with garbanza or chickpeas. And, I also like Greek yogurt so the two combined sound like a good plan. Thanks for the info, Sandra.

I have seen Hummus in the stores. I thought it was a dip? So you mix it in your yogurt? You are doing so well! I had a giggle over Bob's pants dropping! Enjoy your day!

I have never eaten hummus either...question, do you eat it with something or all by itself? Feel kind of crazy not knowing....

Ya, protein is a must! Not only curbs the hunger but necessary for keeping yourself from anemia....which can be disastrous.

Thanks for not sharing the Bob episode. Roflmao

Thanks for sharing this...we'll try it. What do you eat it with?
I had wondered if your change in diet had made Bob lose weight too!

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I love hummus!! When I was working there was a Mediterranean Cafe near by that is where I had my first hummus years ago. I could eat my weight in their chickpea hummus. Never had black bean but I would like it I know.
Yay for you!!
hugs Cecilia

WHAT, no photos! Well, not that I want your marriage to break up or anything...I am so happy for you! Usually we do not learn anything useful at these free seminars, but wow, you really did. Soon you will be as skinny as Betsy. I am hungry all the time, but my diet is very limited. My gastro doctor has me on many diets like FODMAP and low residue, because of intestinal problems. she told me no red meat is the best thing to do, so I have not cooked any in maybe ten years. But I do sneak in a burger at McDonalds once in awhile, like you do. You have strong willpower to be able to diet this long while being hungry all the time.

Everyone has to do what they feel is best for themselves healthwise. I like maintain a fairly decent weight but I refuse to believe that Sugar is that bad. I probably eat more then I should of it but that's my choice.

I have tried it and not liked it too much, but will try again after reading this. I don't want to lose weight, but I know it is a healthy thing to add to my meals. You sure? No picture?

Yep.....he is losing weight too! haha...I know it is time to give up my old underware when I walk across the room in my gown and they fall to the floor! HAHA....Not much of a Hummas eater. But I will look for this one and try it. If you are not getting enough protein you might also start losing your hair. I am there and so tired of chicken and fish....oops.....reminds me I need my fish this week! CRAP....

I love hummus. I use to make it often a few years ago but now I usually bought it. There are a lot of good ones out there.

I'm happy for you. Losing weight is not usually an easy thing to do.

You're doing great...yay!! I tried hummus once and didn't like the taste, but maybe it wasn't a good kind or something. My doc said to eat eggs for protein and I love them, so I'll have 1 or 2 for breakfast. My weakness is sugar. Gotta have it in my iced tea which I love. I keep hoping they'll come out with the news that sugar isn't really that bad like they finally did with eggs! :)
