Dark NIGHT

Last night was a Dark Night, a night of Fright.
Our neighbor forgot to turn on our nightlight.
The bathroom is dark as a moonless night.

4 AM, Bob and Jake go in back yard,  my eyes are burning because I was awake half the night (another story). I stumble in the bathroom, the dark bathroom.

The usually I can see well enough without a light on because our neighbors side porch light is our night light for the bathroom.

She forgot to turn it on.

I need my eye drops so I flip on the light, it hurts my eyes so I sit on the throne with my eyes closed, I blink a few times, to allow my eyes to adjust to the light. My eyes open fully...

Sitting on the rim of the step that goes into the shower, 2 feet from my FOOT is a GINORMOUS SPIDER.. it is 3 inches across ( I swear). I don't move, I think I must move. I slowly inch to the door and race down the hall to get Jack the Giant Killer  Bob the Spider Killer. He has just stepped out of the pool and is drying off.. HE CAN"T HEAR ME... his hearing aids are in the bathroom.

I wave the fly swat madly out the door, wildly using  arm/hand signal saying COME HERE... he runs to me and I do a big circle with my fingers and wave the flay swat. WHAT??? he says.. I SCREAM LOUDLY
SPIDER!!!!! SPIDER....and run down the hall. Under my breathe I am saying over and over, please be there, please be there. IT WAS.

He SWATS it, picks it up with toilet tissue and flushes down the toilet. I keep FEELING things crawling on me, and saying over and over, IT"S AS BIG AS MY COFFEE CUP!  it WAS!
I say, do your REALIZE I was in that bathroom THREE times during the night? IN THE DARK! It was sitting there while I was sitting there. OMG!!!!!   OMG!!!!!

Hello, my name is Sandra and I suffer from Arachnophobia... 2 hours later, carrying sheets out to the washer, I step out the door barefoot and he has left a fan plug laying where I step on it. I shriek! its a spider.. Actually I just jumped 2 foot off the floor and looked down. it will be DAYS before I don't feel them crawling on me. A hair fell down my back and I am shrieking, what's on my back? what it is?  HE REALLY WAS 3 inches across, Florida has these Giant things... this is only the 2nd time I have seen one in this house in 27 years and the first time was a couple months ago.. OH NOOO I placed a call to the Real Estate Agent

ME TOO! Exactly! Maybe more! All my life. I think I got it from my mom and her mom. They were both scared of spiders and I would watch them run and scream. Now you have me going. Cat fur on the keyboard and I thought it was a spider and my heart raced. We have at least one a week in the summer, but not as huge as yours. I bought a spider killer once and it was wonderful! A big long suction tube so you didn't have to get close to it. Then you just pop it outside or in the toilet. But it broke and I can't find another one. I had to stop buying sheets with patterns on them. I would wake in the night and think there were bugs on the sheets. I used to like it really dark to sleep. But now I am old and really clumsy and have bad balance. I tripped and sprained my ankle twice in a month and have been wearing an orthopedic foot thingie for almost a month. Anyway, now we have to leave the low bathroom light on. I don't like it, but we have to do it or I would probably fall.

Oh, you girls! You and Ginny really are sisters from another mother!
I'm glad I'm not afraid of spiders as there's a lot of them in the country! We have them at home too. They are good creatures in that they eat all those pesky flies and such but I don't want them in the house - or camper! Louis Dean buys this stuff called Suspend at the feed store and mixes it up in a big sprayer. We use it at home and here.
At home, we get lots of tiny spiders and I find spider sacs all over the place when I clean. Under the chair legs and such.
Dean has found quite a few scorpions the last few weeks down here. And we are always admonished to watch for snakes! LD is putting the frame together for our big bathroom (here at the ranch) and opted for a solid floor instead of the deck we have in the 'room.' We don't want to be surprised by any kind of critter in there!
Sandra, I'm so happy you survived this whole spider ordeal! When and where are you moving?? Spiders are everywhere! You know this!

Ugh....I hate to see a spider! Like you, I keep feeling like one is crawling on me! Right now, we are doing battle with carpenter ants and yellow jackets!

Good morning, I do not usually have a problem killing spiders. We live in the country too and have a lot of them. I really dislike killing the stink bugs, they really do stink when you crush them. I am happy to have a night light in the bathroom. I have had the itchy feeling on me after seeing a tick crawling on me, I keep thinking there are more. Enjoy your day!

I wouldn't say I'm afraid of spiders but I don't like them getting in my personal space. Only the 2nd spider in 27 years? We have spiders in our house all the time. Mostly daddy long legs but I occasionally see others too. Every morning when I walk out my front door I walk through a spider web

Sandra I am the same way. No matter what kind of bug I see I KNOW it is on me and will some how make it to my ear, crawl in and eat my brain.
I itch all over and do a funny dance and song too. Just the other day on the way to the mall to walk I noticed an itty bitty spider on the passenger mirror. My window is closed...it is blowing in the wind...I just know it will blow into the car via the open sun roof, Bryan says it won't get in the car I said I know, I closed the roof. Itched all through my walk.
Also I want to know why all spiders make their webs or extension at the very height of my face? Must be some kinda spider rule no web shall be higher than 5'
Hugs and Happy Spider Saturday I think I might need a shower to rinse off your spider story.
Hugs Cecilia

Spiders aren't my favorite thing either. We get a few here too. Down the toilet they go. I really hate house centipedes which we get every now and then. They are so fast and creepy. Ugly too.
They are usually in My bathroom. Oh its not a pretty sight getting rid of them!

I'm the spider killer in our house and if I lose sight of it then that is a big problem for me!!!

I suffered from the same fears all my life, but Rachael has helped me get over it, at least somewhat. A spider that big would really freak me out though. I had a snake in my Jeep engine yesterday. If it isn't gone by now, it will have succumbed to the heat and then it may cause my Jeep to die from snake in the engine syndrome. I am not driving it until Monday, when I have to go to town.

This made me laugh so hard, Sandra. Except, I'm that way about scorpions and snakes ... seriously heart-attack material. Ever since another blog friend posted about (someone) finding a snake in the toilet, I've been afraid to "go" in the dark.

I read that spiders hate peppermint and have taken to putting that essential oil in a mister bottle of water and spraying liberally around our doors and patio.

I don't like spiders, but thankfully, we don't have really big ones whereat least I don't think so.

We actually have real night lights in our bathrooms and one upstairs and one downsrairs stay on. Not many spiders in our current house but I am not fearful. I hate mice more because they startle me when they scurry out of a place suddenly.

I can't help but laugh at your fear. I don't like spiders either, but I don't have to shriek anymore...I used to tho!! Living in Texas has cured me of all creepy crawlies with legs.

Oh ya, I hear ya tho on the sensation of them crawling all over you now, for weeks to come. Sorry.
