Smack! Smack! Smack!

Our Kitchen, MY simulation, they were not QUITE that big but almost

While brushing my teeth last week, suddenly I heard Smack! Smack! Smack! Smack! coming from the kitchen, I screamed spoke loudly down the hall   WHAT ARE YOU DOING???
No Answer, he can't even hear me in the same room. I dash stumble down the hall to see Bob slapping madly at the kitchen counter... ANTS... marching, marching, marching, long lines covering the countertops, crawling up the cabinet in a line.

I quickly put out the 3 combat ant baits I had, added ant bait to my list for Walmart that day, came home with 8 more baits. We battled ants for 3 days waiting for the bait to kill the queen.

She Lives ON!  I placed a call to Prince Harry's new fiancĂ© to ask for help with this QUEEN, and got no answer.  Google Girl answered immediately and  advised me to  mix vinegar and water equal amounts and put at least 8 drops of peppermint oil.

YAY! I had a bottle of peppermint water because I had sprayed the bathroom with peppermint water so the GIANT spiders would stay away this past June... see DARK NIGHT

I yanked out the bottle, poured vinegar and a LOT more peppermint in it and sprayed the ants, I sprayed the whole countertop, the walls, the sinks....and wiped with a towel as Google Girl instructed.  The Problem then was, the ants died but we could not BREATHE... seems I was a little heavy on the Peppermint Oil.  We felt like we were living in the peppermint factory that makes those giant Peppermint Sticks.  Yes, I did have to spray again, but it does work better than the baits.

We are not the only one with ants.. CLICK HERE

Ants!!!! I hate ants in the house, even outdoors!! Despise 'em. Those nasty boogers.

Makes me think of Willy Wonka and the "Peppermint Factory". You haven't heard of that movie? Well, it hasn't come out yet, but you're sure to have the studio execs come to your house asking if they can use your home for a movie set and the Peppermint Factory.

Ants are no fun! I remember driving by a Wrigley's chewing gum plant on the expressway and how powerful the peppermint smell was!

I seem to remember my Mum pouring boiling water down the hole where the ants were coming from, don't know if you can see where they all emerge from. Yuk!

I am sorry but I'm laughing...with you not at you...I had any kind of bug in my house too. LOL on the Peppermint factory.
My daughter and SIL live 5 miles from the Atlantic and of course it is damp there all the time. They battle ants too. Their first house was built on a concrete slab. They had a time then. The kitties water and food dishes were in the sunroom where evidently there was a Welcome Ant sign. They had to make put the food dish in a moot type set up to keep the ants out.
Good luck

Oh my, I have heard that peppermint oil is good to have in the house. You know me anything with an overbearing smell I would feel sick. But peppermint is supposed to help with the ill feelings. We have ant bait all around the outside of our house, luckily we have not seen them inside. I need to buy some peppermint oil. I hope all is well now. Enjoy your day!

HAHA....that is too crazy. I usually get them bad in the spring but this past spring they were not bad. Later in the summer they came out and then right before fall it was like they were looking for a home before cooler weather. I usually keep Lilys dry food on the bathroom cabinet out of reach of DAKOTA but the other day we had ants there. She is now eating on the dryer. It is crazy. Then in the fall Dakota go fleas. He never gets fleas, so then Lily got them and I had to treat them twice to be done with that.....the bugs seem to be going wild lately. Hoping you took care of the ants. I have not tried peppermint on them but I will when I see them again...and I am sure I will.

Ugh!! I can take spiders...but cannot stand ants ever since I stepped in a fire ant mound(in Pensacola) when I was a very young girl!

LOL on 'screaming' to Bob down the hall. Tom's the same way. But when he doesn't respond and I raise my voice he gets all 'bent' and says, "You don't have to yell!" Sigh.

We had a similar ant problem a few years back, and my SIL recommended Terro liquid ("a little drop will do ya."). That worked like a charm!

YOU are supposed to breathe, the ants are not. Well, at least this way seems natural and safe. Which worked better, this way or the traps? Apparently this way. We have spurts all year when we get ants. We will have tiny little ones, real tiny. They get everywhere because they fit everywhere. One thing I read, ants are very clean! Not like roaches and flies. And they will clean up your crumbs and carry them away. So I like to think of them as tiny MAIDS. We haven't had any the last year or so. I read that the beginning of getting rid of them is to find where they are coming in. that is hard, but maybe find the trail? Then you only have to hit that one place. good thing your kitchen is so white and pretty, they would show up well. The worst thing about them for me is that they get in all your food! Not fun to pour out a box of ant cereal. We have to seal everything really tight.

For some strange reason, your post has made me hungry for the sensation of a York Peppermint Patty, or maybe some chocolate covered ants!

I hate when ants come into the house. This was the first summer in a few years that we didn't have any! (knock on wood)

I hate ants and usually have a problem with them in the spring. I've heard of using sugar water with a little bit of borax in it. The ants carry it back to the colony and it will kill them all. Or so they say. It seemed to me that it just attracted more ants. I'll have to remember your solution

I don't even like think about this...used to ever year at some point we would have ants here. ALL sizes and I am not kidding. Not a super lot of them but enough. And they were not eating anything...just marching through...

Glad that worked. I would rather have the smell of peppermint around than to have the ants.

Okay...I went to the link about ants..
YUCK.
Now I feel all creepy crawly...
I know I am going to regret this
But
So far no ants this year!!
I'm sure not in the mood to do the ant shimmy today.
Glad you got rid of those things.

I think you are amazing the way you find ways to deal with insects since you’re so allergic to the chemicals in sprays and such! Bet your house still smells good!

We've had a lot of luck with Terro Ant Killer Liquid. They devour it and soon they are all gone!
