Memories of Mother

all photos are from internet images items for sale by different people. Not my photos today
My Mother LOVED frogs, back in the 60's, we never had a problem of what to buy for a gift. My brothers wife and I kept mother in good supply. Sears had these frogs on everything. I worked in Sears Catalog. Easy Peasy and mother LOVED any and all. Her kitchen was bright yellow, even the cabinets. They painted over the green for who knows why. These curtains hung at two windows and

all that you see here littered the counters, every surface. Not in cabinets, she wanted to SEE them.

And now I am upset because these memories are called Sears Vintage, which makes ME vintage to.
At least so is my brother and his wife. Vintage I Mean...

Another memory surfaced. We saved for many months to surprise here with this vintage bird bath. I think it was $69.00 which was a ton of money then.
It became the joy of her life. She sat in the swing and watched birds while she snapped beans.

I ove frogs too. When I was teaching the kids always bought me frog presents. My friends too. When we moved I had to do a lot of frog culling. I didn't have anything vintage. Still have quite a few frogs in the apartment. Not as nice as your mothers stuff though.

I enjoyed learning about your Mother's love of frogs and how nice that she enjoyed the bird bath you saved to gift her. When I first went to work back in early 1980, co-workers and I kept gifting and re-gifting a frog statue! I think it ended up in Michigan when one of the co-workers relocated!

Those collectibles are adorable. I'm glad you were able to buy her many things she enjoyed. I worked at Sears, too.

You've reminded me of my grandmother and her frog collection. I have her salt and pepper frogs. Watch for a future post.
And that's me - sitting on my swing watching the birds without the beans.

Vintage is the fashion - it is again 'modern and current' and the bright young things of today like to pay big prices for it so they can be like their grandparents and great grandies. Those frogs cannot help but make a smile happen... YAM xx

Hello,

Vintage is in right now. I love the frog collection. The bird bath is great too. Wonderful memories of your mother. Happy Sunday, enjoy your day and the new week ahead!

Your mom sounds like such a wise and wonderful woman. Most people would squirrel these away, but they are for the purpose of SEEING and enjoying!! Are these photos from NOW? Do you still have them? Where do you put them? This is just a wonderful story, and I have really enjoyed reading about her, and her love of all creatures. The cute tablecloth would be great even today for a picnic. I LOVE the mugs! And YES to her yellow kitchen! Ours was yellow for years; it cheers you up, and is sunshine on a dark day. I know they are very sentimental, but I do think they would be worth a whole lot. Now, do YOU collect anything? Beside photos?

Aw those frogs are so cute! I love the vintage look!!! My mom had a ceramic frog she named Jeremiah. Somewhere along the way his lips got cracked, perhaps us kids were too rough in the house. I'll never forget the bandaid she stuck on his lips. She never took it off. I still giggle when I think of her with Jeremiah and his bandaid. Mom's are the best and I'm glad you have something to remind you of yours.
Have a great Sunday!!

Those frogs are cute. Your mother's kitchen must have been very cheery with the yellow cupboards.

I can't say that I would want the frog motif in my house, but you sure do have great memories of your Mom.

It has been many, many, many years since I snapped beans! The only kitchen theme I ever got into is Ivy. I have ivy on my dishes and stenciled on the cabinets....don't you just love those memories?

Thanks for sharing these memories, Sandra, and your mother had a lot in common with us. We also had many frog-themed items in our home, some useful and others not so much. The bad thing about people knowing you like a certain theme is that we would be gifted with even more frogs including many stuffed toys. We still have a few but many were donated when we moved. Nice to read that your mother enjoyed her treasures.

Your mother sounds like she was a lot of fun. I guess we are all vintage - and sometimes I feel it. Back in the 60's I decorated with daisies. That was when Flower Children were popular. I went through a duck stage and then a country style and now I'm just eclectic! My kids have al said they would never decorate the way I do - and yet they do - at least a little but.
I'm glad you have such good memories of your mother. Did you call her Mom or Mother? Our mother was never called mom. I wanted to be called MaMa but all my kids call me mom. What do your children call you?
