Ibis- Vacancy HERE

Flocks of American White Ibus are a common sight in our neighborhood, they wander in our yards poking those long ugly beaks down in the grass eating whatever it is they eat. I took these from our garage, they are easily spooked, so can't get close.    (no clue why the neighbors painted the door orange a few weeks ago, the house is PINK)
P.S. if your house is pink with an orange front door, just Snap! Me

The odd thing is, we have been here for 22 years and never have we seen one of them in a tree.

We were in the back yard playing ball with Jake and heard a loud flutter and 20 of these ugly guys settled in our pine tree and just sat there about 20 feet above my head.

They were just far enough away, that is was hard to get a good photo, so i put out a sign on the limb that is 10 feet above the ground. Hope they can read....... I really need them to sit there for easier access of my camera lens
UPDATE : 11 AM
thanks to my friend in Ohio, Janice for letting me know Ibis is spelled with and I not a U.... No wonder the IBIS did not come to the IBUS limb

  1. You got some great shots! I've never seen these before and how strange about them getting in the tree.

Just yesterday, I noticed blue birds had filled the vacancy in our blue bird box!

  3. Oh Sandra you are so creative, I could just see your or me climbing up the tree to put in a IBUS sign!
You have flocks of those beauties in your yard, and wandering around, so nice.
We have wild turkeys that frequent certain areas. Life is never dull.
    Wonderful post.

  4. You got great shots in spite of the distance!

  5. I always thought they were pretty birds from a distance but then I never got a good look at those faces. They are a bit funny looking.

I think it is a strong possibility that your neighbor is color blind. What else would explain that orange door?

  8. Great shots again - interesting birds! I wouldn't sit under them though...hehe...Not sure about the door at your neighbors house...wouldn't mix those two colors, not even as an artist I would...
    Have a great day!

  9. We have Ibis here too, every where. They are a little different to yours and I think yours might win the ugliest contest.

  11. Beautiful (sort of) birds. Great shots. And, I'm white on white. Boring. All my color is inside the house.

  13. Uh oh! You put the welcome sign out via photoshop only, I hope. And I hope there is not an ibis rookery in your tree's future. Although it might be a source of photo subjects, if ibis rookeries are like some other shorebird rookeries I have encountered, puuuuuuuuuuueeeeeee!

  14. sure hope the ibis don't roost there! could get really messy - like egrets.

  15. An orange door on a pink house! Very interesting! Maybe they really got an urge, to shake things up a bit.... ,-)

Eouuuuuuuu, they are kind of ugly, are they not?

And you were certainly in a *dangerous position,* when taking one of those pics. Mmmmmmmmmmmm... I'd not want a big bird like that, to poooooooo-on-me! -gigggles-

  16. Beautiful shots as usual!

I love seeing what is "normal" in other areas. Around here we get squirrels, wild turkey and deer. I think we'd be intrigued to see something like this out the front door (orange or otherwise).

P.S. In your shot the orange door provides a nice pop of color and doesn't look strange at all (Just in case the neighbors pop in). I like it!

  17. Hmmm. I'd like to have a red door. But not with a pink house. Birds are beautiful.

I don't normally see them in trees either, but the other day there was one on my neighbor's roof. Wonder what's up with them?? I just love the one pic where they are in the tree and the sky is so blue and there's one flying in the background...WOW!

  20. OMC I've never seen and Ibis in person and certainly would never expect to see that many in a tree.
They don't look like they'd be very good at flying but they are.

Our neighbor has a PURPLE door (which we like) but the house is lime green!! MOL

  34. Hi Sandra, Great pictures of the Ibis... That was a big group of them... How did your doggies respond to the Ibises?

They aren't the prettiest birds on the block --but that's okay... They are special ---just like that orange door across the street... ha ha
