We found a cabin for one in the Village. Washtub and Washboard and a hand pump.
I think the bed was for when the person was worn out from pumping water to scrub clothes, and to warm up when the hands were red and raw from scrubbing those clothes.
(note: DIRT floors? think no vacuuming or mopping)
and on that washtub was a Katydid, and I am thinking if Katy did the laundry using these tools, she would need that bed WITH a mattress Please.

A PERFECT and perfectly wonderful Katydid picture!!! I don't think I have ever seen one in a blog, much less in real life. Wow on the detail!!! No vacuuming on the floors, but bugs crawling up the bed, eek!

Besides the hard work, hard bed and dirt floors the occupants would feel the wind and rain come through the gaping timbers. Pioneers did it tough.

Katydid needs a "Katydo" list with all of that work! I've never seen a katydid before. Interesting. I love thinking about how folks lived in the pat be ....I do not want to live that way!

ReplyDeleteI remember going to my grandfather's house and having to use a water pump like this. Fortunately the house was a little larger than this cabin, and the floors weren't dirt. You got a wonderful picture of the katydid.

Wow! That is a rough way of life! With the dirt floors all I could think of was snakes! My grandma and I talk about what life was like when she was a kid. She was born in 1929. There's a lot to not miss and a lot to miss. :)
