I have posted many photos of the powder puff flower. This year it has done extraordinary things which we have never seen before. It has never had seed pods and we have discussed why not. Now we believe it is because we did not let it mature as long. Every other year Bob hacks it down to four feet. But this year the last time he hacked it down was 2009.
The tree is a monster and at times has had up to 200 blooms on it this year. We have not touched it and these dead looking things are different stages of the flowers as they go from bright red to dark and dreary,

Love those blooms it reminds me of our Memosa tree.. When I was a kid I would the blooms in my hair pretend I was in Hawaii.. Or pretend they were powder puffs

ReplyDeleteWow, it looks like a dust mop in a couple of these pictures! The pods are amazing, they have green around the edges and silver in the middle, like someone painted them. The first picture, it looks like a raised sword getting ready to cut the flower, can you see it? It is so COOL!

ReplyDeleteThese blooms are beautiful and they remain interesting at all stages. I like how it turns purple (at least on my monitor) as it dies. All of your photos in this post are pretty but I love, love, love the first one!
