As we lay in bed drinking our first cup of coffee, I reached up and opened the window. at 4 AM our resident mocking bird was in full SONG.... for one hour, he sang without stopping. I said to Bob:
"How many songs do you think a mocking bird can sing, he has been through at least 10 or more?"
The answer is up to 400 songs... oh WOW... they imitate birds, insects, amphibians and even machine noises... and they make melodies and blend all this together. Did I say WOW?
I am now in a full blown disease called "cameraitis" I just know I am.. I stood up later in the day to refill my coffee cup, walked in the kitchen and saw my camera ready and willing, highlighted by the sun. Lucky me, the Nikon pocket camera was on the counter.....
Another part of the disease is framing what I snap and hanging it on the wall.. How many people do you know that take a photo of their disposable salt and pepper shakers, frame and hang on their kitchen wall?
All of the above taken Monday AM between hours of 4 and 8 AM....there is never a day that I don't use one or both of my cameras.
I love listening to the birds when we sleep with the window open. Although they could perhaps not start 'singing' until 5 am? Those 3 am birds are a little tiresome. ;)

ReplyDeleteMockingbirds are our state bird... We have several that come to visit usually when I don't have my camera handy... I love that you have salt and pepper shaker photo in your kitchen that is so clever
ReplyDeleteI am amazed at the mocking birds abilities...but four AM? I am surprised that his species has not been killed off LOL Your photo's deserve to be hung....they are all creative and professional. :)

I thought I was going to be a camera addict but as it has turned out, I'm not really. I've lost the Wow factor of it since I can't figure out most cameras. I'm just not talented in that area. But - I love mocking birds. They can also imitate a telephone. One time I couldn't figure out where the telephone ringing was coming from about five every morning. Mockingbird.

ReplyDeleteGreat photos... I have so many different interests that it's hard to get totally addicted to any of them... BUT--I do know that I don't EVER want to travel anywhere without my camera. When we go someplace where we can't take photos (like the Biltmore House), I am ready to LEAVE... The photos are the most important part of traveling to me!!!!

I have decided this year I like the mockingbirds just a tad more than my all time favorite - the meadowlark. Can you imagine the songs he sings at our farm with all the different animal and people sounds he has to imitate? Just wonderful!

The salt and pepper are totally AWESOME!!!! I love them! And I did not know the extent of the mockingbird's noises. That teeny tiny bird brain definitely could NOT do all that, it is God.

ReplyDeleteI believe that you are the only person I know of that took a picture of disposable salt and pepper and hung it on the kitchen wall. That makes you unique :) I like the idea though. I rarely print and frame my pictures and I don't know why.

ReplyDeleteMocking birds are so cool and I love to hear them sing but alas, none in this area. Sometimes a robin sits outside our bedroom window but he is rather obnoxious and not welcome.

ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to hear a mockingbird! When I take Misty outdoors at 6 AM, there's such a wonderful choir of birds - robins, orioles, woodpeckers (tapping on the metal roof of our barn!) cardinals, etc. etc. Love that time of morning when the only sounds I hear are the birds.

We use to have a Mockingbird, wonder whatever happen to him. My husband thought he was mocking him but I think it was the other way around! Love your cameraitis!
