Queen of the Night 2014

At 4 AM July 2nd there were 20 open blooms.
July 3rd there were 6 more.
Each bloom is 14 to 15 inches long and 7 inches across

The Queen only shows her beauty after the sun goes down.
And only  July -September

6 AM and 4 AM
See the difference in the 4 AM blooms, taken with flash at 4 AM.. they droop when the sun hits them.
The blooms hang in a giant bridal boquet maybe 25 feet long.
I post these every year, to see past years CLICK HERE

The tree is covered in blooms, I have to shoot through the pine branches.

  9. How much do they weigh? So how did you get that first snap in the split screen? The sky is bright blue!! Why do they hide their beauty at night? Usually it's because night flying creatures pollinate them.

  14. So pretty and amazing and fascinating. So the blooms droop when the sun hits them, do they fall off or perk back up after the sun goes down?

  17. Yes! They bloom in the rock wall around the school president Obama attended near here! I got to enjoy them when I drove night taxi here.

I have to tell you that your comment on my post about 1964 & dad started my day with a real high! Sometimes I read my husband something exceptional online, and you let me feel that sharing feeling I work for every day. Thanks, Sandra and your Perkasie husband.

  24. Another one of the most adorable beauties that you are lucky to live with. They are beautiful, too. So many different tropical species that you are so blessed with. I envy the fun of watching them each day!

  26. Your night blooming cactus is beautiful! Looking at the greenery it looks like a cactus? It’s fascinating how they close their petals when light comes. You could almost see that in a prehistoric forest. Your pines are lovely too, both very healthy looking for sure. Great photos!
