Towing Tale from our past

1978 Grand Prix, 1970 Blazer, 1978 Corvette
Our Fleet in 1985 consisted of the three cars above. Bob drove the blazer to work each day, 95 miles round trip...

We had CB in the cars

and  CB in the house....  the CB was the instrument that introduced us and led to marriage.

He drove this bridge, that is about 5 miles long, every day and from the highest point he could Key the CB radio and shout, Cherokee Rose, I am on top of the sky-way... I would key in the house and say Got you...

this meant he was about 15 or 20 minutes out. I could only hear him from their because of the height of the bridge.

One day, he called a second time...

"Cherokee Rose, you copy me? " "Yes, what's wrong....

he said "I am at 5th ave North at 22nd street. the timing belt came off the Blazer. Bring the car, you will have to tow me home."

10 minutes later I pulled up behind him, he chained the Blazer to the Grand Prix

AND SAID

"YOU have to tow and I have to drive the blazer... I said "NO, I will NOT tow that truck. I can't tow the truck..."

He yells "YOU HAVE TO Tow".. the person towing can't use the brakes, the person being towed has to use the Blazer brakes to stop both cars." You are not strong enough to do that."

I YELLED, "WHAT?  are you crazy? " NO NO NO... he said "GET IN THE Car" you can do it. I cried the whole terrifying 10 minutes that I towed the car home... without touching the brakes... I am hyperventilating as I type this story.

  11. That is horrifying! What if the brakes are brakes are gone in the car being towed???? I would have reacted the exact same way!! That Grand Prix and Corvette would be worth some money NOW! But we never know that when we need to sell or trade. Cherokee Rose...SO romantic!!!!

  20. That sounds like quite and adventure. I have been in the vehicle being towed but only once. Hubby never told me I had to stop him too and he used his brakes. But then he was driving a pickup and I was in the Camaro.

  23. How did I not notice that header? Did you put it up today? or was I just distracted by the towing story yesterday. Anyway, the sentiment expressed is so true. We let fear rule us needlessly.

    Scary but you did it.
Being pushed completely beyond my comfort zone is the only way some things get done.
You've led an interesting life Sandra.
