To meet a few of the cats click here... Big Cats the Show was a blast and my face hurt when we left because of smiling the whole time.
This is a rescue sanctuary only and NOT a Zoo.. it is only open a few hours a week in order to raise funds to feed the rescue animals.
None of their animals can be released into the wild, they were pets that were abused or given up because wild animals should never be kept as pets.
Big Cat Habitat offers life-long sanctuary supported by income from the demonstrations and from donations.

One can sort of really look at them and the wires just disappear. My favorite is the beautiful white tiger. Wonder why they don't allow videos?

ReplyDeleteit is sad that people keep these beasts as pets and then dump them when they get too big/vicious... we have a big problem with people keeping exotic pets and then abandoning them when they act the way they are supposed to.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Jandi. People get these animals as cute cubs and then abandon them when they can't handle their size and wildness anymore. Great that they 're in this sanctuary.

ReplyDeleteThe sanctuary is doing a good job It's quite a challenge to keep large wild animals that have been rescued from unsuitable conditions so I'm glad that the organisers get the support they deserve. Fascinating photos of these magnificent animals Sandra.

ReplyDeleteABOUT 6 OR 7 YEARS AGO A BIG CAT RESCUE FROM FLORIDA WAS AT OUR STATE FAIR...THEY TOO WERE RAISING FUNDS FOR THE FACILITY. WE WENT TO THE EXHIBITION WE WERE AWE STRUCK BY THEIR BEAUTY AND THE LOVE THEY REC'D. I WONDER IF IT IS THE SAME ORGANIZATION

I'm glad there is a place for the rescue of these magnificient creatures.

These beautiful animals, aren't they magnicient? So glad they can be taken care of when it won't be possible to reintroduce them back into the wild. That in itself is sad enough but at least they have a decent home now.
ReplyDeleteoh how fun. Such beautiful creatures. I was under the impression that it was illegal to have a wild animal like that as a pet so it's better that they are in a place like this anyway.

ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome place. I love "Big Cats" (little ones too) and am so happy to know there are places like this that give these animals a fighting chance to live a good life even though it's not the one they were meant to live in the wild.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm seeing this post, I realize that it is a Rehabilitation Centre and not a zoo. They do such wonderful work in rescuing these magnificent animals, and it is heart warming to know that these beautiful big cats are now living in a sanctuary, where they will be cared for all their lives.
