What Do You Do?

Tell me what you do when you wake up at 2:30 AM or any to early time, wide awake, like someone propped your eyes open with toothpicks?

If I can't sleep when I first go to bed, I grab my kindle e-reader, put it on low light and read awhile. Sometimes I wake up at 2:30 am and there is no going back to sleep. I ease out of bed, go down the hall and pick up my Galaxy tablet, read emails, read FaceBook, Read blogs. What do you do?
UPDATE AT 8:09 AM..... I just got up from reading blogs, went to the kitchen for another cup of coffee and left the cup sitting on the computer desk...

  1. DST changes make my sleep schedule messed up. About the time I get used to it, we go back.

I usually read when up too early.

I'm generally still awake at that time, never having gone to sleep. Insomnia has been my close companion since 'meno' set in. I read, I blog, I catch up on viewing... or I plot what I will do in the time after I do eventually get some zzzs.

On reading - I have recently been working my way through The Digital Reader blog. You may find posts of interest there too. I came at it from the author's POV, but he has a For Readers angle also. YAM xx

  4. This NEVER happens to me! I am a very sound sleeper and rarely wake up for anything. On vacation last week, my niece was LOUDLY throwing up in the middle of the night right next to my bed and they said I did not budge! HA! Not sure if that is good or bad! HA! Annster's Domain

  5. Oh, for the days I could move about the bed without rousing Macie or GraceE! Even when my hip is killing me, I practice laying still so the girls won't think it's party-time. Being a control freak, I usually engage in crafting screen plays and casting characters from books I've enjoyed.

  7. Oh dear I turn on my Grace digital radio to an instrumental station that is very soothing. We sleep with the house at 67 so in the winter if I got up I'd be frosty. If I turned the heat on it would get too hot in the house for B to sleep.

  9. Hello,

This happens to me often, I do lay there hoping to be able to go back to sleep. I refuse to get out out bed before 3:30. I have read blogs and facebook at that time. I wish I was a sound sleeper.

  10. There have been times that I have done exactly what you have done, Sandra. And, I can recall reading an article that said if you can't get back to sleep, then don't try, but do something else instead. And, you certainly are following that rule. That said I have been trying not to get out of bed even when I wake up at 3 a.m. because I'm trying to get a minimum of 7 hours a nite - not always succeeding, but coming close. The Fitbit I wear "knows" when you get out of bed and then "subtracts" that from time slept. But if I stay in bed even if awake and not moving around it does NOT!

  13. Oh Sandra, me thinks your Fretter is working overtime.
    Too much on your mind.
I hope you get some rest and finally get that cup of coffee you need.
When I wake up and can't go back to sleep like night before last, I get up ...go potty...take an aspirn and go back to bed. It usually works...usually.....

  15. P.S. now I am wondering if this story is continued...what happened to the coffee? Maybe The Big One drank it and got hyper...it could happen!

  18. The best way to get back to sleep is to put an audio book on, I usually go to sleep and wake up a few chapters on from where I left off, reach over turn it off and go back to sleep.

  20. A nightmare is what I say about waking up then. I pray, toss, occasionally get up? Til I realize I cannot fix the world...

  22. I will lay on the sofa in my office and watch a movie. They say that the screens end up keeping us awake and you shouldn't use them before bed. I usually fall back to sleep watching a movie with the sound down low.
