Avocado News for Yous

It's thankful Thursday over at Brians Home and today we are thankful
for 4 of these big Avocado this week. Each is 6 inches long (15 cm)

we are thankful they could be picked without a LADDER.

Good News! In the past I just could not eat this fruit. Now I can! and they are free.
I saw smaller than these at Walmart for 2.98 each.
We are Thankful they are FREE to ME
Bob was raving about how good his tasted, and I speared a slice and put it on an unsalted saltine, and it was so yummy, I ate another.
More Good news because I can add them to my YES for IBS list of fruits and they are on the soluble list and perfect for breakfast.
Breakfast for IBS should be all soluble foods going into an empty stomach.
IBS means small quantities, many times a day. Breakfast from the Safe List Only.
We are thankful I developed a taste for them in my Old Age.
Great news is avocado can be frozen. As soon as these ripen, I will cut one in small chunks and add to my slushy.
Yes, Of course I will tell you how that works out!

  2. That's huge. We had a friend who grew up really poor somewhere in Africa and his dad had always called them butter. They used to mash them up and spread them on toast. He was surprised when he came to England years later to discover butter was yellow stuff. They are good mashed up with salt and pepper, and maybe a squirt of lemon juice.

  4. Now I'm wondering how much they are where I work. I tried avocado once and didn't like it.

  5. Hello,

You are lucky to have your own avocados, I do like them too.
Maybe not in a slushy, they are a healthy food.
Take care, have a great day!

In OZ, where a friend had an avo tree, I got access to this luscious fruit. I used to make avo ice cream, and cold avo soup (like a gazpacho); it's lovely in omelettes and, of course, best of all, smooshed up with seasoning and spread on toast!!! Now, even getting a half-decent avo at all, let alone affordable, is a challenge... I am as green as that fruit with envy! YAM xx

  10. Those are HUGE!
I almost gasped out loud when you said they're asking $2.98 at WM; that's just wicked. I'm going to have to put aside my taste for guacamole.
So glad you found another safe treat!

  14. Wow, wow, wow!!!
I was just at Walmart and saw the teeny, tiny avocados for a Kings Ransom. Sorry "king". Didn't buy any.
These are huge and I bet so very tasty..slightly jealous.
I'm glad they are on your "good" list and that the Tree Rats haven't gotten to them.
Gonna be hot today. Got our new radiator in our car this morning. Now we can actually go places without worrying. Had to borrow some money but its done and we are grateful.
    So its onward with Life!

  16. Wow that is a plus. Well done for growing them. I have always liked them but I wasn't sure about how soluble they were. I will bring them back into my boring diet. Just got out of hospital after heart checks as I had a racing heart after walking a few times. They say nothing major wrong. They didn't prescribe beta blocker because they are not compatible with asthma medication.
