The fountain is in front of City Hall/Police Dept and has a mother Manatee and her baby.
Manatees (family Trichechidae, genus Trichechus) are large, fully aquatic, mostly herbivorous marine mammals sometimes known as sea cows.
They are a common sight in our warm Florida waters.
Our County is named after them.
That is the sweetest sculpture. So many of them are being unjured by boat propelars!
ReplyDeleteThat's so sweet! 👍❤️

ReplyDeleteIn some parts of OZ we get Dogongs - close cousins of the Manatees. They are delightful! YAM xx
Beautiful sculpture of the Manatees. We have a very similar animal called a Dugong.I wonder how they differ or are they the same. You might do the research because I can't be bothered at the moment. (In pain with a sore back)
ReplyDeleteFacts. Dugongs are cousins of manatees and share a similar plump appearance, but have a dolphin fluke-like tail. And unlike manatees, which use freshwater areas, the dugong is strictly a marine mammal.
DeleteWhat a nice statue that is.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI love the fountain and the manatees. They are cute critters. I have seen them in various places around Florida. Happy Sunday, have a great new week!
The best photo you shared is the close-up!!!
ReplyDeleteNow, I'm singing "when you're alone and life is making you lonely you can always go ...downtown!!!"
Regrets! In all my years living in Florida I never made time to go see the manatees. Someday, maybe?
ReplyDeletePS - Back in the 90's there was a guest guitarist at our church who performed a ditty he'd written about a manatee named "Hugh." It wasn't long before we realized the song was about safe boating and keeping the waters clean for "HUMANITY."
What a beautiful post about Manatees they are graceful.
ReplyDeleteI watch Zoo Tampa on Animal Planet...they have a rehab center on site for injured Manatees
Hugs Cecilia
These are such amazing creatures. Its always on the news when you have a cold snap and the manatees huddle together inland.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing that blue sky. There's no such thing here again today.
At least it didn't rain all night and we didn't have t worry about flooding and our pumps. It sure can get depressing, which Dave and I are fighting today.
Off to church and out for a quick lunch then home and snug in our house again.

Years ago, we swam with manatees! Sweet.
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful fountain. Thanks for sharing it. I know that my sister likes Manatees.
ReplyDeleteI love them and the fountain is just beautiful. I've seen a grown manatee in an aquarium, I think Monterey, but never a baby. That would be special.
ReplyDeleteI love them!!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos and a beautiful sculpture of the manatees.
ReplyDeleteWe saw some of those creatures being 'rescued' in a TV program. They like lettuce it seems. After they got healthy they were allowed to go bome again xxx MrT
ReplyDeleteAhhh, so cute with the baby next to her.
