USA Memorial Day 2023

The first observance of Memorial Day was on May 30, 1868.
The holiday was then known as Decoration Day and was created to honor the Union soldiers who had died in the American Civil War
The Civil War was the deadliest of all American wars.
The most-accepted estimate was about 620,000 dead. A specific figure of 618,222 is often cited, with 360,222 Union deaths and 258,000 Confederate deaths. Info History.com

Each year we remember those fallen in service to our country.
the total number Military since 1775 that have died in service to our country is almost 3 million.
if you like details I got the number from the hard work done by Wikipedia

Remember the Fallen and pray for those still in harm's way

  3. Australia honours its own (plus those from New Zealand) on ANZAC Day in April…..and also takes part in the worldwide November Remembrance Day services. Sadly many decry these as days of glorifying war not honouring those who gave their lives for a cause

  8. Splendid - sobering - post. After watching last night's National Memorial Day concert (PBS), I can't bring myself to say "Happy" Memorial Day.
Thank you for saying I can share your photos. Both are wonderful, but the second one really grabbed my heartstrings.
