I left you Friday, in Part 1, with these words...
I leave and hit the busiest street in town, and now it is bumper to bumper, and I think, let me off this street, then I spy with my little eye Manatee thrift Store! YAY!
I am ahead of schedule, despite my hissy fit, God has given me and OUTING! Time to Wander in a Store....Stepping in the door, see 3 pairs of shoes, all 3 are my size, look like new, but none of them fit.
Does.Not.Matter: I am OUT OF THE HOUSE IN A THRIFT STORE...
I grab a staple puller, 50 cents, a bag of 10 colored pencils, 1 dollar.
I grin while grabbing 4 pairs of ugly, yellow, socks with thingies on the bottom to stop us old people from falling. Bob has 2 pair, we need more.
I hit every aisle headed for the furniture dept to see if they have a comfy chair, they do not, they also do not deliver, so good thing they don't have one.
For years we eat at the breakfast bar, all 3 meals. Now we eat on the glass table, where the wheelchair fits best.
I had a MOMENT and remembered Mothers oil cloth table clothes on her kitchen table, Swipe and wipe them clean in a moment.
I Google search Oil cloth tablecloths and find there are many, Amazon and Walmart. No to all the prints, my chairs are green and burgundy flowers.
Walmart comes up with a 60 x 60 100% wipeable tablecloth for only 7.99 , delivered by tomorrow. I quickly buy now........ and when it comes, OH NO, its POLYESTER... the perfect color but not oil cloth. I knew it said it was wipeable and did not read the fine print.
I had may have added to the hissfit about driving the packages, that I know it can't be wipeable and toss it on the table and now
I.AM. IN.A.Thrift Store
I am on a mission for wipe-able place mats. the ones I have I liked but they have holes in them.
like this.
the crumbs get stuck and fall through the holes. I spy 4 green that will match the chairs, 2 dollars for all 4. and I grab a 2-dollar sheet, twin size, same color as the one flat twin at home, aha. I spent 10 dollars 70 cents tax and go home to take photos
they match the chairs perfectly. I am Happy Happy,
I put the 3 ovals back and try the plates to see if I can make myself use the wipe-able green that matches the chairs, but I still hate it.

What an adventure! Fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI liked the green placements and the color of the tablecloth.
I made a mistake ordering a tablecloth I thought was wipeable, it was not. It will have to be machine washed. BTW, I love the rechargeable lamps, pretty lighting. Take care, enjoy your day and happy weekend.

ReplyDeleteI like it - looks warm and seasonal. I didn't mind the green cloths on the round table... until you showed us the oval place mats and I saw how it could be better. Is it possible to cut the green ones to that shape - though that might mean having to use needle and thread to trim it off again..... yeech, there's always something! YAM xx
Sometimes in life you just have to improvise, don’t you?
ReplyDeleteIf you have a sewing machine, trim it...fold the edges and make a small border. Done.

I liked the green placemats. I wouldn't be bothered with them touching though. I don't think I've seen oil cloth tablecloths but plenty of flannel backed vinyl tablecloths that are wipeable. They do come in round size too. While I was reading this I was wondering if you could take one of the oval placemats and use it as a template to cut the green ones to make them oval.
ReplyDeleteIt looks very cosy and welcoming.
ReplyDeleteCould you trim the place mats to a more acceptable shape and size?
Hilarious! I love this so much. At least you are up and doing some "fun" things to entertain yourself, and it sounds like Bob is being entertained as well, sort of. LOL. I see others are suggesting you trim the rectangles to ovals...is that a doable thing? Try it! You might like it! Personally, I like them just the way they are, but that's me, and you need to do what makes you happy. The tablecloth is lovely and romantic and sexy. Bring a little "romance" into your dining time. Why not??? It might change the atmosphere...just a thought. Love you. Have a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteYou did great! And now I'm waiting for part 3!
ReplyDeleteWell Sandra...I do hope you are done with your hissy fits. lol. I have to laugh because I can so see myself in that same situation. Thrift stores are the best retail therapy and retail therapy is great for taming hissy fits. I like your table setting...it looks very pretty.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun to be able to browse and bonus to find things you need.
ReplyDeleteOf course we all need to every so often eat by candle light.
Hugs cecilia
Okay I feel so good vibes in this post. I don't mind your hissy fits either. I get it. I like your new table settings!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, talk about 'smokin' deals'! I love discovering treasure I didn't know I need.
ReplyDeleteYour tabletop dilemma(s) could SO be me. I could have pulled out the wooden insert to make our table longer, but noooo. I had to try and arrange the 4 oversize placemats catty-corner from one another ... like anyone would have cared (except me). Oh, and a big thumb's up for wipe-off tablecloths. Unlike my mother who'd put out pretty embroidered holiday cloths -- which, of course, had to be carefully laundered and ironed -- I've a vinyl with cotton(?) back -- that lives on the table 24/7, 365. I think it came from WM or Amazon. Win, win!
It never occurred to me to use a traveling lamp on the dinner table ... genius! Mine's still in Amazon's 'saved for later' section but that may have to change!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that you are OCD! (Almost as much as me!) HOWEVER...the breaking of leg creating the permanent twist and the limited mobility because of it have tempered mine. Now, when I look up and see the detritus around the room, I can ignore it until Tuesday (straightening day), or the Nutmeg hairball the size of Jo Jo that lies under my printerstand, I talk to it...Love your new table setting! Here, Mr Marvelous would have rearranged it for me. 🤣❤️😂💕 Barb
ReplyDeleteYou found some great buys at the thrift store. I'm glad you had a little adventure away from your home. It's too bad I don't live closer because I could probably sew those rectangle placemats into oval shaped ones for you.
ReplyDeleteThat was a fun thrifting adventure and I'm ready to hear more! Big hugs from all of us.
ReplyDeleteYes, I see Beau's paw. Yes, those socks work well. Sorry about the tablecloth. The placements look good, but I understand why they bothered you. I'm glad to hear that the tablecloth wipes off after all.
ReplyDeleteMy husband is asking me why I am chuckling! Too funny, Sandra because I get it! I have that kind of OCD too. I think it looks fine and it worked out and is wipeable!!! and I also get it when you said, " I don't love it but I do like it a lot" 😂. You're A hoot.
ReplyDeleteYour day sounds a lot like one of mine! I'm glad it wipes off.
ReplyDeletethat is almost stream of consciousness stuff - the whole creative process from go to.... well still going
ReplyDeleteI wish we had thrift shops here in Portugal. I would have a ball inside. You made some fantastic buys. I like those socks that you can wear without shoes.and those wipe clean tablecloths. I do like your burgandy square table cloth.. Good luck figuring out what to do with your new green table mats.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that you got out of the house and went thrifting!!! Good for you!!!
ReplyDeleteI can see where food gets caught for sure. It's weird that they make them that way. Maybe to run under the sink? I'm not sure. Breakfast bar sounds fun. We used to have a bar of sorts here and now we have a table. Though at this moment, the table is covered and I need to work on that today. Cheers and Happy Tuesday.
