Fog On Spiderwebs

Fog on the spider webs taken last week

Conversation in Nov. 2009 between Bob and I about Fog and fog photos I took at Emerson Park Preserve sometime in 2009.

Monday through Friday, we leave home at 5:17 AM to be at the YMCA gym at 5:30.
This morning, as I backed out of the driveway, I noticed the street lights had misty fog, only showing where the lights were. The fog was moving in.

Sandra: "Look at the mist in the lights"
Bob: "fog in the lights"
Sandra: "I just said that"
Bob: "No, you said mist, it's fog"
Sandra: "It's mist if you can see through it and it's only where the light is"
Bob: "It's fog no matter where it is"

And so forth and so forth, you fill in the blanks.
On the way home, at 6:30, the FOG was on the roadway and we could hardly see the trees and no sky at all, as I drove slowly through the FOG
Sandra: "now this if FOG"
Bob: "Right, this if Fog and it was fog an hour ago."

and so forth and so forth. Since I had no clue what to do for my daily post I decided to find a few fog pictures to go with the discussion. I started to say argument then thought quarrel.

  1. I like your foggy and misty photos. I had to look up mist, it say it is a light fine version of fog. I would like to visit that preserve.
Take care, enjoy your day and the week ahead.

  2. Now you have me curious as to whether there is an actual difference between fog and mist, or whether it’s just semantics. I will have to check! The memory of going to the gym together must have been sweet.

LOL... well, it's a matter of distance of vision: og is denser, reducing visibility to less than 1,000 meters, while mist is thinner, with visibility exceeding 1,000 meters. I have to say, the photos all show fog because you definitely couldn't see much beyond 500 m by the looks of things! As for the droplets, technically they are not fog. They are condensation as a result of fog coming into contact with an object at a different temperature to itself... oh donchya jus' luv fizziks?! YAM xx

  10. I really thinking that fog pictures show true definition of a what our eyes see. sounds strange doesn't it especially when we know that fog blocks our vision.. but..just like in even your first photo, not only do we see the web with fog dew on it, but to me the foggy background makes the trees in the far background stand out.

  13. Interesting post and great photos of the fog and spider webs. We have had some spider webs recently on our patio lights.

  14. Surfing the webs in the fog can be complicated LOL! Big hugs from all of us!

  15. It’s a “misty, moisty morning” to me, not a “foggy, moisty morning.” I love it when it’s misty and you can still see things, but not when things are shrouded in fog.

  16. I love the photo with the bench the best! ARRGGGH! Spider webs! where they are goes danger, in the form of actual spiders. And when the webs are empty, WHERE have the spiders GONE? They are beautiful with mist or dew on the though, but it is a deceiving beauty. Bickering!!!

  17. Yes, I think Ginny's choice of words is perfect ... Bickering ...
You and Bob are 2 such Strong Minded people. Love your Foggy, misty photos.

  18. I'd call it fog, unless it was more like a "spray of mist". To me, fog is more opaque than mist. Mist is more like a very fine kind of rain, only just a mist of it...either way, it was beautiful, and I'm glad you got the pictures to prove it.
"Mem'ries light the corners of my mind
Misty water-colored memories of the way we were
Scattered pictures of the smiles we left behind
Smiles we gave to one another for the way we were"

  19. You two are so funny. My parents never argued -- even quarreled. It was always a "spirited debate."

  20. I like your discussion/argument/quarrel. It made me laugh. The fog on the spiderweb is cool. It looks like strung beads

  21. I like your fog on spider web pictures. That conversation was funny.

  22. Fog can be beautiful if you take the time to 'see' it...though that may be hard, as mist is easier to peer through. That was a fun discussion about fog and mist you had...way back when.

  23. That is exactly how Rick and I debate. The fog looks a little sad - but you know - spring is coming!

  24. The photos show just how foggy it was, or wasn’t. If it’s light, it is more of a mist.

  25. The saying is that Eskimos hve some incredible number of words for snow (lets say 15 because I cant remember the claim and don't know whether its true anyway) - but let's say there is an element of truth then what's a mere 2 words for water vapour hanging in the air? Mist, fog... who cares unless they are driving or out at sea in it. (My least favorite weather condition at sea.) Haar is another variety of said weather condition. Now you should challenge us to find 15 words for fog...

  26. https://www.wordhippo.com/what-is/another-word-for/haar.html also called sea-fret

  27. We have two different words for mist/fog in Swedish too, which I bet could cause the exact same discussion... ;)

  28. Fog and mist make nice photos especially spider webs.

  29. Beware of the Vampires in all that fog/mist... lol
Love all the photos! Aren't spiderwebs prety?!

  30. Hi Sandra:)
It feels good tp be visiting your blog, I'm so sorry Beau has been ill and that Bob had a fall which thankfully wasn't a bad one. I LOVE your mist photos, and your conversation with Bob about mist verses fog made me laugh, especially when I read "and it was fog an hour ago"!. You two are a scream,
