flamboyance of flamingos

Flamingo comes from latin word, Flamma, which means flame. Flamingo have tiny brains smaller than their eyes.

they live in flocks or colonies and can swim really well, even though they look awkard on land. they also fly and the underside of the wings is black

Flamingo's lay one egg only during nesting season, 30 days incubation time.
both parents care for the baby by regurgitating food until the little beaks become formed and hard

  1. Those are some nice colorful shots..especially the reflections of the group! No wonder that means flame. So you mean they laid that one egg in front of you two the other day?!! Fantastic!

  10. Since we know the day that the egg was laid, and we know the incubation period, we'll have to brave the heat and humidity of July to see who has hatched!

  12. What a fun post. I really loved the color in the photos. Another fact that I learned about flamingos is that they get their color from eating so much shrimp. Lucky flamingos.

  13. I love these and had a hard time choosing my favorites! They are the first one, and the first one that has the beautiful reflections. They have white eyes. I don't think I've ever seen one swimming on either pictures or T.V., they are always standing. I am going to Google why they stand on one leg and put it on my flamingo post, I have two to do, but none of mine are real or beautiful like these! They are man made.

  15. Just looked at your previous post too, they're both - amazing... ;) I love that next to last photo here, you can hardly see what is what, so many of them all curled up, and with the water reflections too! We have some at our zoo but one doesn't get really close to them.

  21. Now some people don't get what other people like about Flamingo's.
    But - I LOVE THEM!

Don't know why exactly - I guess I love the color.

I didn't know their brain was so small though - that is pretty small.

    Great pics and info. Thanks.
