Mothers Day Surprise!!!

My friend Judy and I went to Jungle Gardens on Mothers Day as a special treat to ourselves.
I love Flamingo Faces

I love Flamingo Feet

I love the fact they can stand for hours on one leg looking like a cotton candy pretzel

Look, my Chatty Cathy self said to Judy, It's breeding season!
( as though Judy can't read the signs all  by herself.)
Look, Judy the sign says nesting area! where is it? I don't see it!


Judy, come back, stop snapping shots of that dead tree and COME LOOK! I found the NEST
The nests were way up under a hibiscus and there were 6 of them, piles of very wet MUD, they have water running to keep it muddy for them
Judy, LOOK, she digging in the nest with her beak....
LOOK, Judy Look! she is digging in the nest. (I think i said that about 6 times)
Well, Judy came running and grabbed this amazing shot above.
 This was the most amazing mothers day for both of us, the mother scratched in the mud, turned around and sat down and started to SQUAWK! then several ducks walk over and started QUACKING! 3 more Flamingo's came and circled her and they All Squawked and Quacked!!! LOUD and she laid her egg in the nest, WHILE WE WATCHED
God's Amazing Creation, right in front of our eyes.

    What an amazing day. To actually see them nest building and then lay an egg. Was it only One? They are beautiful coloured birds.

    These are so awesome! I love flamingos and have never seen one, except in pictures. Some day I shall!

    What a great Mother's Day treat! Jimmy and Oreo got me a new BBQ which was really nice of them. I needed one! :o)

    I love it that we got different views of the nesting ritual.
    I googled "Flamingos" and learned that they lay only one egg.

    I love Flamingo's too - I adore them - part of it is their pink color I'm sure.

    My grandmother always had pink flamingo garden statures in her flower beds. My brother really doesn't like them... and we have thought about getting a couple to put in HIS flower beds here. I always thought they looked fake and cheesy... but then I saw the real flamingo at the San Diego zoo and discovered... that the real live flamingo are soooo pink and stand soooo still... they look exactly like the garden statues. In fact, sometimes you would be hard pressed to tell which were real and which were the statue.

    That was a once in a life time experience I think. I know it made your Mother's Day happy! Great shots!! Pat has always wanted to put fake pink flamingos in our front yard. I think he is teasing me, I hope anyway! I agree with srp that they look fake and cheesy. One day I may relent and let him put them out there. Who knows???

    First of all, your header is beautiful!! I'm happy you could visit this place and share the photos. I think the feet are too cool and of course the other captures..what an intensely gorgeous color huh?! The nest and egge (lol) a Mother's Day treat indeed!

    Wow!!!! I am bowled over by the header and the whole post!! You have outdone yourself!! So they like mud like pigs, who would have ever thought something so pretty pink would like mud. But they look so pink and clean, I wonder how they don't get covered in it? And she laid the eggs while you watched!!!! Could you see how many, I guess she never got up then. How far away is this place? Wouldn't you love to come back and see the babies on their little high stilt legs??? I went to Judy's blog. I lived in Maryland, too. She is the same one who started a blog quite a while ago! I remember her, I am still signed on as a follower. She didn't post for a month or so and I thought she didn't like blogging and had given up! So I quit checking. I left her a comment, I'm glad to see she didn't give up blogging.

    Now that was a great Mother's Day surprise, to see the nest being built and a egg laid. That is just too cool. I have seen an Ostrich lay and egg but this sounds much more exciting with all the quacking and such.

    Those feet are so small looking, makes me wonder how they hold up that big bird.
