Current In Yard # 2

 Jake! leave that lizard alone!
 Who? ME?
 Currently we have over a million lizards in our yard. (well, almost a million)
 Above is a small female, about 1 and 1/2 inches long, below is a very pregnant female about 4 inches long about to give birth to 10 or 12 more little lizards.

When I was age 12 through 15  I took a bath once a week in a galvanized tin tub in the middle of the kitchen floor that we filled by boiling rain water from the cistern.  No Indoor plumbing, we had an outhouse 30 yards down the hill in back of our house. I had to carry buckets of drinking water from the neighbors. It has now been  52 years since I sat in a tub, I take showers, long HOT ones that run out all the water.

    I didn't know they were so tiny, so it must have been very hard for you to find the sex organs and tell what sex this one is!!! So cute!!!! It has been at least thirty years since i sat in a tub. Now I couldn't even if I wanted to. Long hot showers are the best in winter!

    hehehehehe...male and female...well...I do not like lizards....Jake does...LOL

    Are you having bath in a tub? That is normal, no? Sometimes I have a shower,....but sometimes I have a bath in a tub...
    (something is missing to my English language, I bet!)

    I remember my Dad bringing in the large tin bath from the back wall in the garden. My Mum used to light the copper and boil the water, then we all used to jump in one after the other small ones first and Mum and dad last.
    After the event, Dad used to bail the water out and throw it down into the garden finally walking the bath across the scullery with the remaining water and tipping it out.
    Needless to say baths were not a daily occurance in our house. lol

    I remember the hard days of a beth once a week. You had it even harder having to carry your drinking water..I bet like me, you still appreciate having plenty of water and an easy shower. xx

    Love your header, so crisp and colourful. Do the lizards have babies I thought they laid eggs. I enjoyed MS trivia. Flush toilets are taken for granted by younger generations. We were tough kids.

    I do not think I would like to have those running around our yard.... Beth said she too likes showers and hasn't sat in a tub for YEARS! She also remembers the outhouses....I don't get it....I always go out side to go potty....what's the big deal?

    We have a lot of lizards too no bird dog eating them...I love soaking in a tub...can see why you don't...I'm loving learning these things about uou

    No baths for me only showers; if I got down in the tub I'd never be able to get myself up again! All those little lizzards mean less bugs! I find the eggs they lay in my flowerpots some times.

    Well, I'm a shower person too. My only remembrances of outhouses were at campgrounds. I cannot imagine trudging through snow in the middle of the night. Too awful!!

    LOL on the galvanized tub....geez I don't blame you I'd never sit in another tub. I LOVE my shower each night probably the highlight of my day.

    Hi,
    I just had to comment on this picture...and I just finished reading about Jake's story...amazing. We just lost our older dog Buster , but still have the little Boston Terrier, Bugsy, that was rescued from a puppy mill in Indiana. He is a joy and a blessing. So glad Jake found his way to your heart!

    Yep, we had an outhouse when I was a very little girl. Then my Grandpa came and put a real bathroom in for us! I love showers.

    Jake is too funny! That is what our Rambo does everyday.:) We have a lot of liards here too. They don't bother be at all...cute! I'm a shower person. If I take a bath it has to be hot, it helps my back. I love learning about you. I'm so grateful to have indoor plumbing all my life. :)

    I keep saying to Tom that I need the camera hanging around my neck all the time, then I wouldn't miss a thing.
    Lovely lizards, sadly we don't see them here much anymore, when I was a kid they used to bask along side the garden walls, not sure where they went, pesticides maybe..

    Sandra, I haven't been well again so I'm behind on my comment replies. It must have been you who was concerned about Soldier, right? I will discuss arthritis meds with our vet this week or if I should give him some of the other meds he got when he was so ill. Thanks for your concern. Then I am also thinking that it was you who told me how to fix my font size. I tried the new format in blogger and didn't like it a while ago. It may have changed by now. Do you use the new format, if so, do you like it? Fortunately, Rosalind Adam told me I could hold down Control and click zero, or naught, as she called it, being from England. Thanks for everything. Oh, it was warm here the other day and our lizards exploded out of their hiding places, but now it's freezing cold again, so it will be a while.

    My kitty killed a small lizard that somehow got into our basement!

    I can relate to your story of the early years. We didn't have indoor plumbing either in the house we lived in until it burned down when I was 9 years old. Of course, at that age I didn't know any different. All the work my poor mother had to do, emptying chamber pots and doing without running water.

    I looked out my window today to see a lizard sunning itself. The dogs were no where to be found! I know moth balls get rid of them but they are poisonous to the dogs.

    I can't imagine taking a bath like that. I did have a friend in high school that didn't have running water in her house. That was so shocking to me because I didn't think anyone still lived like that when I was a teen. She wanted me to spend the night. Other kids told me about the non water issue and the outhouse and I was scared to do it! lol She later moved in with a neighbor who took her in.

    Sandra, I have decided that living in Florida would not work for me cause lizards running about the yard would not be fun to see, but I do enjoy the colorful blooms you have been sharing. Also, the interesting facts about your life, including the truck driving stint. You have led an amazing and interesting life and may it continue to be more so.

    OK, I'm a biologist by trade so maybe I'm a little weird but I LOVE the lizards. :)

    Yep, I too grew up and took the tin tub baths. I also went to a 3! room schoolhouse (very progressive w.the 3 rooms, LOL). The outhouses were down the hill, boys on the right, girls on the left. There was a pulley connected to the schoolhouse so you could use the cable to help get back up the hill during icy weather. Nope, not kidding! :)

    I also used to slop the hogs and gather the eggs before going to school. The school got indoor plumbing the year we moved. The whole town turned out for the 1st flush. And again, I promise - not kidding.

    Hard to believe. Doesn't seem like that long ago. Thanks for the memories! :)
