Hullabaloo - Helicopter

My friend Rich and the helicopter we went to see. He lives next door to the hospital and has seen this helicopter land many times, including FIVE minutes before I got there, when it landed for the health fair.
FIVE MINUTES! and you would have seen it in the air.

In photo above is the nurse that rides in this machine that saves lives daily. There is room for the pilot and a medic and the nurse.

Can you see how small the area is that they slide the trauma victim in? I asked the pilot what do you do if it is a 6'7" 350 pound man, as in a basketball/football player.

His answer was they don't transport if they don't fit weight land height limit. The fuel is 100 gallons of weight and he said it would not lift off. OY

SOOOO I am now on a diet...... I fit under the height limit....and the weight limit, but what about the Fit In that slot limit?

They sit in seats at the head of the person, there is KNEEL only room beside the victim.

I started to hyperventilate looking at this and had to move on.
ONE of my many fears, is Tight Spaces. OY Vey

  1. That is not a lot of space, but I suppose it's enough to to the necessary treatment during the transport to the hospital. I don't mind tight spaces that much, as long as I know i'll be taken care of :) Cool pictures
    Have a great day!

  2. Double OY!!!! This is WAY cool. I have photos of helicopters, our hospital one is called Pegasus. But I have never seen inside like this!!! It looks almost as bad as an MRI! I probably would not even fit in the slot! This is one fancy copter...I love the bright green design and the fan thingy at the back! Does it have a name, did I miss that?

  3. I see a big BAE on it. I am very pleased with myself because I think I have guessed it...Bradenton Air Emergency? Also, don't feel bad about the five minutes. We have all seen helicopters up in the air flying. But never up close and even inside!!

  4. Wow... great , amazing shots, Sandra! Oh you are on a diet, are you? So am I. And you say that "ONE of my many fears, is Tight Spaces"! well i'm the opposite: ONE of my many fears is OPEN Spaces...van you believe that???
The best to you. we are going to Coimbra, now!
    Have a nice day.

  6. That is a beautiful machine, I really like the streamline look. The space looks so tiny for a patient and medic. Of course if your the patient being transported you probably would notice anyhow. We see helicopters flying over all the time but seeing inside is rare.

  8. Rich looks good! Beautiful pictures of the copter. I guess I will be walking to the hospital, huh? I will try not to think about that. Hope I just drop dead in my tracks one day. But what if that does not happen....??? Oh well.....The Lord has always taken care of me and I will count on him as I always have.
    Love you, Madeline

  9. Interesting!

We live a few blocks from our local hospital and hear/see medi-vacs going over. Never saw one landed.

At a fair, once-upon-a-time, my daughter and I took a ride in a helicopter. I "do" light planes. But that copter ride was kinda' scary. Seeing tooooooooooooo much, thank you very much. -grin-

  10. I enjoyed your pictures of the medical helicopter. I was flown to Cleveland Clinic in one many years ago, but I didn't get to look around much.

  11. cracking me up! you're on a diet so you can fit into the emergency helicopter IF need be. :)

that is an amazing machine and crew that do this, though. :)

  12. Hi Sandra, Neat post... I've seen those medical helicopters in the air alot --but have never seen the inside or seen them up close and personal. I always wondered about the weight/height limits.... Yipes!!!!

    Thanks for a great post.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  15. Another interesting post, Sandra. I was very interested in the inside front, too. But I do understand not wanting to be in tight spaces. I don't like it either. These are great pictures. Nice to be close up to a helicopter......don't often see that.

  16. Cool post! I have never seen a helicopter that close up. Thank you for sharing!

  17. These are pics I have never seen before. I had no idea how compact it is inside. Kneeling for more than 5 min would be impossible for me.

My friend's son in law is a LifeFlight nurse with Duke here. He actually has to keep his weight at a certain level or he could be grounded!

  19. I in't realize how restrictive the emergency helicopter is.
I admire the nurses and pilots that do this type of work day in and day out. Grateful for them and hope I never need one.

  21. Amazed that they offered the opportunity for such a close look. Here's hoping you never need to experience that tight space!

  22. I've seen the helicopters take off and land at the hospital many times, but never thought about the weight limit! Great photos, Sandra!

  23. Terrific photos! I'm not a fan of flying, but this is one cool machine! We see helicopters here daily from the news channel checking for traffic. Pretty cool that Rich is so close to the hospital to see this helicopter taking off and landing.

  24. I guess if one were sick enough to have to use this form of transportation,it wouldn't matter if the space was tight.

  25. Looks like fun. Another reason America needs to lose weight.

  26. That sure is one fancy helicopter but that does look like a tight fit. I bet it's not the easiest working in such tight quarters.

  27. Do not worry madsnapper if they send that machine to get you you'll be glad to slide in that tight space. LOL

  28. I hate tight spaces too!!!! I like air...:)JP

  29. That looks like the Cadillac of helicopters. I have never seen such a fancy one before, and never seen the inside. I hope I never have to see on for real if you know what I mean.

  30. Not much space in there, and I am glad they have them, but I hope to never have to use one. sandie

  31. Very tiny space but that is really an amazing work of art, very modern indeed! I'd like to experience riding in one but do not wish to be sick :p

    Take care Ms Sandra!

  32. Let's just hope that we never ever need to ride in one of those! I say if there should be a weight issue they should leave the nurse behind! lol

There aren't many places to land those around here in WV because of the terrain and all.

I don't like tight spaces but I am now having to get used to them because of the different tests that I have had to have.

  33. I admire rescue workers of all kinds. The men and women who fly air ambulances are heroes.

  34. When you're really in need of a helicopter transport then perhaps you stop worrying about the minor details... They have a landing space for a helicopter at our hospital too and I've seen helicopters come in for landing but I've never seen one up close.
