My friend Rich and the helicopter we went to see. He lives next door to the hospital and has seen this helicopter land many times, including FIVE minutes before I got there, when it landed for the health fair.
FIVE MINUTES! and you would have seen it in the air.
Can you see how small the area is that they slide the trauma victim in? I asked the pilot what do you do if it is a 6'7" 350 pound man, as in a basketball/football player.
His answer was they don't transport if they don't fit weight land height limit. The fuel is 100 gallons of weight and he said it would not lift off. OY
SOOOO I am now on a diet...... I fit under the height limit....and the weight limit, but what about the Fit In that slot limit?
They sit in seats at the head of the person, there is KNEEL only room beside the victim.
I started to hyperventilate looking at this and had to move on.

That is not a lot of space, but I suppose it's enough to to the necessary treatment during the transport to the hospital. I don't mind tight spaces that much, as long as I know i'll be taken care of :) Cool pictures

Double OY!!!! This is WAY cool. I have photos of helicopters, our hospital one is called Pegasus. But I have never seen inside like this!!! It looks almost as bad as an MRI! I probably would not even fit in the slot! This is one fancy copter...I love the bright green design and the fan thingy at the back! Does it have a name, did I miss that?
ReplyDeleteI see a big BAE on it. I am very pleased with myself because I think I have guessed it...Bradenton Air Emergency? Also, don't feel bad about the five minutes. We have all seen helicopters up in the air flying. But never up close and even inside!!

That is a beautiful machine, I really like the streamline look. The space looks so tiny for a patient and medic. Of course if your the patient being transported you probably would notice anyhow. We see helicopters flying over all the time but seeing inside is rare.

But what if that does not happen....??? Oh well.....The Lord has always taken care of me and I will count on him as I always have.

ReplyDeleteWe live a few blocks from our local hospital and hear/see medi-vacs going over. Never saw one landed.
At a fair, once-upon-a-time, my daughter and I took a ride in a helicopter. I "do" light planes. But that copter ride was kinda' scary. Seeing tooooooooooooo much, thank you very much. -grin-
I enjoyed your pictures of the medical helicopter. I was flown to Cleveland Clinic in one many years ago, but I didn't get to look around much.

Hi Sandra, Neat post... I've seen those medical helicopters in the air alot --but have never seen the inside or seen them up close and personal. I always wondered about the weight/height limits.... Yipes!!!!

ReplyDeleteMy friend's son in law is a LifeFlight nurse with Duke here. He actually has to keep his weight at a certain level or he could be grounded!

I worked very closely with Life Lion...our rescue helicopter in this area...the staff is so knowledgable... and trained..

ReplyDeleteTerrific photos! I'm not a fan of flying, but this is one cool machine! We see helicopters here daily from the news channel checking for traffic. Pretty cool that Rich is so close to the hospital to see this helicopter taking off and landing.

I don't like tight spaces but I am now having to get used to them because of the different tests that I have had to have.
I admire rescue workers of all kinds. The men and women who fly air ambulances are heroes.
ReplyDeleteWhen you're really in need of a helicopter transport then perhaps you stop worrying about the minor details... They have a landing space for a helicopter at our hospital too and I've seen helicopters come in for landing but I've never seen one up close.
