Riverwalk - Bridges

Last week our City completed Bradenton Riverwalk

Riverwalk is 1 and 1/2 miles of brick sidewalks on the banks of the Manatee River and  includes,
A Splash Park and Playground
Skatepark
Volley Ball Beach with white sugar sand
Outdoor Living rooms
Amphitheater
Fishing Pier
Day Dock to visit by boat
Kayak Launch

DeSoto Bridge
Our county is divided by the Manatee River, there are 2 bridges and one train trestle that span the river. It is one and 1/2 miles from bridge to bridge with the below trestle in between.

Green Bridge is behind the trestle and was there as the only bridge when i was a child
the new park follows the bank of the river from Green bridge to the Desoto Bridge.

the train trestle is off limits to any thing but the twice daily Tropicana Train

Railroad Crossing with Green bridge in background

New fishing pier, just completed

The purpose of all this yada yada is Sunday Am bob and I went to see what the city spent 6 plus million dollars on that runs along the waterfront from bridge to bridge.... to be continued

  7. A River Walkway sounds lovely, "at first blush". I await your verdict on whether what they did, was worth the money spent.

  10. I'm thinking this is money well spent as tourists will appreciate the area and bring money with them. :))

  11. It looks great - but I am no judge of 6 million dollars - wish I had it. I do like the colorful sign too. And the fishing pier. Very nice. sandie

  14. I think it sounds great with such a long riverwalk. I love walking along water. In my town it's only possible here and there to follow the river, there are a lot of interruptions (bridges, factories and other buildings, parkinglots...) They're working on extending the walkways along the river though.

  15. What a beautiful area and trail whoa baby 6 million plus!!
I bet it would be fun to ride on the Tropicana train across the water. That track is pretty narrow.

  16. This park looks like it's got something for everyone. I'd be down there exploring too. What's the charge to ride the train between the two bridges?

  26. Looks good, but I'll await your report. I can't help but wonder if it is worth it, tho. 6 mil is a lot of dough.

  27. Well now I know the price tag for thinking outside the box. As a taxpayer, is your take that funding was well spent? It appears from your later posts that you, Bob and lots of others will enjoy the innovative spaces.

Can't wait to see pix of you and Bob making use of the Skatepark!
