These are the front pages of the family Bible that was from my dad's side of the family.
The Bible was bought for the wedding day of my Grandparents, married on July 10th 1907
This was their marriage certificate filled in by the minister that performed the ceremony.
It states
"This Certifies that Charles McCall and Carrie Terrell were united by me in the bonds of Holy Matrimony...
Signed J.S. Jordan
I know I am OLD when find my grandfather was born in 1872 and my grandmother in 1886
Above is the record of the birth of their 7 children... born 1909 - 1922...and the Bible was used when my dad had no birth certificate and needed one back in the 50's.. he showed the Bible to the court and had 2 of his great Aunts swear that he was born on the date in the Bible, in 1913 they kept no records in Manassas, Ga
Above is the color of the faded pages... I was amazed to see the drawings in color.
That Bible is a keepsake. I like seeing the beautiful handwriting of years ago.Seems we are losing that ability.
ReplyDeleteThat is very cool. A keepsake for sure.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,

A wonderful keepsake and I am so lucky to be the keeper of ours.
ReplyDeleteYou are very lucky to have this treasure, Sandra! Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteoh, how precious and you are so lucky to have it! It is good that we keep such wonderful treasures. This is an important part of your history to be handed down to the next generation.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful family treasure!!! My daughter has been working on our family tree through Ancestory.com she has found cool documents
ReplyDeleteThere's so much history recorded in those bibles. It's beautifully illustrated.
ReplyDeleteWow that is really a blessing for you! How wonderful for you to have that - such history!! I have not heard of Manassas, GA though.

What a treasure!! I loved looking at the elegant writing! Such history. Your very OWN history! You are blessed!
ReplyDeleteThose are lovely drawings and a real family treasure :)
ReplyDeletewe had a big old family bible - w/ a gold cover - that had a lot of family history in it. not sure which sister ended up with that.
ReplyDeleteFabulous family Bible.. You are so lucky to have one. I don't think my family ever had one. I have a small Bible that belonged to my mother --but not a family Bible. For a Genealogy person like me, I HEART that Bible. You are one lucky lady...
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy

ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed you sharing the family Bible with us.
ReplyDeleteThat is a treasure! So glad that you have it.
ReplyDeleteA real family treasure. My grandparents on my father's side were both born in the 1800's but I can't recall the exact dates.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful family keepsake and a wealth of information too. All of those towns that didn't keep birth records way back then are a definite challenge to those of us who do genealogy.
ReplyDeleteActually color was used back then but only for special books. It would have made it more expensive.
What a treasure! And I think it's also interesting that there was a time in this country that we could take people at their word (with two witnesses, which comes from the Old Testament, of course). That Bible is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThat old paper is so pretty!
ReplyDeletexo Catherine
What a treasure.
ReplyDeleteI must check out Mom's Bible and see what has been recorded.
What a marvelous family treasure. Too often mementos like this are lost.
ReplyDeleteThat is a real treasure Sandra! I don't think they make Bible's that beautiful anymore. My great grand father's name was Boyd as his first name. It amazes me that they didn't keep records of birth other than family Bible's back then. I was just telling my husband yesterday that there was a man in the obits that said he was 107. I told him I'm seeing more people over the age of 100 now and I wonder if they even know when they were born because they didn't keep records back then.
ReplyDeleteWhat treasures you have there! I love researching genealogy. And that is a goldmine!
ReplyDeleteI'm reading the blogs backwards today ;) It's lovely to have those old documents and the family bible. I love the handwriting. Hope you've had a good week so far
ReplyDeleteAs for me, went out for a run after work and now just chilling reading blogs before I scoot to bed...it's all go...but the weekend is within grasp.
wow! how wonderful! such history. what a family treasure. that's for sure!
ReplyDeleteWOW! So the colour would have been painted. Print was too costly.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the church back then didn't keep a record?
Good job the family did !
My paternal grandpa was born in 1892 and great grandpa 1856.
So nice to have a family keepsake treasure like this bible. Even dates with 19 what ever make me feel old. LOL
